it is the gravitational pull of the earth. if you were in australia (or anywhere in the southern hemisphere)the pull would be the opposite

Its the pulling of the gravity, in the north of the equator the water goes round anti clock wise in the south of the equator clockwise, watch some children's programmes on TV they can be very informative (if you have the time that is)

It's mostly to do with the shape of the bath. Don't believe stories about it going in a different direction in Northern and Southern hemispheres.

If you are bang on the equator line in doesn't go round . just straight down . It is called the Coriolis force .
