I know it tones your muscles, but is it a good cardio work out as well?

Absolutely. Swimming is a full-body workout and is considered zero-impact meaning it is very easy on your joints and bones. Developing "swimmers lungs" comes with consistent training and is often a higher standard of cardio fitness than that achieved through running. Keep on swimming and you will tone your entire body very well.

Swimming is an excellent cardio work out. Get your heart rate up and you start burning calories and fat. Plus it gives your joints a break from stressful impact of regular aerobics.

Swimming is excellent for weight loss and increasing aerobic capacity. The link below gives a table where you can determine how many calories you are burning based on your size and intensity of your swimming.

To lose a pound, you need to burn 3500 more calories than you eat.

Yes, yes, and yes. There's so much you can do to (swimming laps, aqua exercise, etc.)
