My daughter began showing interest in the computer at 2 1/2. I bought her the game Reader Rabbit Toddler and I was amazed at how fast she picked up using the mouse. The game also helped her learn the ABC's and numbers. She would spend 15-20 minutes at a time and loved every minute. It was great because the game was geared towards her age and her educational level with the abilities to increase as she went. I don't think that it was too early to start her on the computer I think that it helped add a different style of learning. We were able to purchase other games as well like Blues Clues and Dora. She was not ever connected to the internet so there was no risk of getting on porn sites. Personally, I think that any computer knowlege is great. Technology and computers are the future and all children will need to know how to use them. I think that you too will be pleased with what educational games via the computer can offer your son.

My daughter just turned 4 this past saturday. She gets on the computer anytime she wants to. I have her online games saved to the desktop along with online learning websites. She has her own little folder for songs and Dora movies. She knows how to play them, how to stop them, how to turn volume up and down. I have given her orders she does NOT touch the big E on the desktop. She also knows how to shut the computer down correctly when she is finished being on the computer. So, yes your son can be on the computer. Some people may argue they are too little. But as for me, a parent of a 4 year old i KNOW from experience, a 2 year old can learn fast. Good luck to you and your son.

My boys are now 23 and 17 and have had access to age appropriate computer software since they were very young. One game my older son loved to play while sitting on his dad's lap was a very simple game where a letter would appear on the monitor and he had to find the matching key. If he found the correct key a little bird would walk across the screen. If he got it wrong he would get a funny noise. He would do it wrong on purpose because he liked the funny noise.

Your little boy sounds like my children. When my 1 daughter was about 3 years old, one day I left the computer on and she had got on it. The worst part is she had clicked on a link to a porn webpage and started asking me, "Mommy why are these mommies naked?". If you would like to let your son on the computer, it is fine but always supervise him. Sure, children can show an early interest in computers.

My 21 month old daughter sits on my lap when I'm at the computer sometimes and when we play pinball on the computer she launches the ball but that's about it. She wants to use the mouse too. When she's older I may let her use the mouse and keyboard with me right next to her to practice skills on the computer but I haven't decided yet.

My son was 2 and half when he started using the laptop by himself. He's 4 now and is still loving it!
I'd rather he be learning on games than watching cartoons.

I don't think so, but only for a limited time, like maybe 10 minutes. Mine started playing educational games, like a nickjr.com
