I crave ice all the time. From the time I get up in the morning, I have a cup of ice handy to munch on all day long. I am ruining my teeth!! I have favorite places in our town where I know the ice in the drinks is good to crunch on. It's really strange and I just wondered why a person would have such a craving to chew on ice.

when one craves eating ice it constantly, it usually means your body is low on iron, You need to make an appt. with your Dr. and he will help correct this deficiency....good luck ;)

Hey there, I had very extreme anemia for awhile, and my doctor said that one of the side effects was a craving of chewing ice/dirt. (thank goodness I didn't want the dirt lol) Go to your doctor and get blood work done, or start taking over the counter iron pills. I took the generic store brand pills 2x's a day, and started feeling better in about a month. I'm still not 100%, but I don't crave ice as much anymore and i'm not tired as much anymore either. I bet this is what your problem is. I highly suggest doing the iron pills. They make really small ones now that aren't hard to digest (I have a sensitive stomach). Good luck!

You are not alone!! My Dr. tells me that it's because I have an iron deficiency. But I can take iron and still have the urge to eat ice but not as much. Hope this helps.

The only answer I know, my sister had the same craving as you, and she had to go to the hospital and have blood transfusions, not trying to scare you, but she had a tiny hole in the lining of her stomach and she was really low on blood, when she went in. So as not to scare you, you need to tell these systems to your Dr. no matter how silly it sounds. She my sister had a cup of ice in her hand until she went to bed at night, and then sometimes she would get up in the middle of the night and eat ice. Thanks for letting me answer.

It could be an iron deficiency, it could also be a compulsion called Pica (pronounced "pie-ka" or "pee-ka", depending on where you live.) It's a good idea to go get a complete physical from the doctor as soon as you can.

It means that you are anemic or have a low iron count. I have the same problem and my iron is so low that I have to get iron infusions every few months. You need to either start taking supplements or go to the doctor and have it checked.
