God created Man. Man created religion. That is my theory.

I've already answered this question, this is a repeat.

Religion is a form of worship. It includes a system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices; these may be personal, or they may be advocated by an organization. Usually religion involves belief in God or in a number of gods; or it treats humans, objects, desires, or forces as objects of worship. Much religion is based on human study of nature; there is also revealed religion. There is true religion and false.

Why are there so many religions?

A recent tabulation concluded that there are 10 main religions and some 10,000 sects. Of these, some 6,000 exist in Africa, 1,200 in the United States, and hundreds in other lands.

Many factors have contributed to the development of new religious groups. Some have said that the various religions all represent different ways of presenting religious truth. But a comparison of their teachings and practices with the Bible indicates, rather, that the diversity of religions is because people have become followers of men instead of listening to God. It is noteworthy that, to a large extent, teachings they hold in common, but that differ from the Bible, originated in ancient Babylon.

Who is the instigator of such religious confusion? The Bible identifies Satan the Devil as “the god of this system of things.” (2 Cor. 4:4) It warns us that “the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” (1 Cor. 10:20) How vitally important, then, to make sure that we really are worshiping the true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and that our worship is pleasing to him!

Without preaching as to the existence of God, you see religion is just a moneymaking business like any other. Let's, say, compare to carpets. One store has a beautiful one but at a fair price. Next store has what looks like the same carpet but perhaps is manufactured in another country, yet this store can offer a better deal. If there is a God, down the centuries, I bet his image has been so distorted he's just not the same person anymore.

IN THIS 20th century, more people claim to belong to the Christian religion than to any other. Yet this century has been the most troubled in human history. Why the paradox?
For one thing, many do not take their religion seriously. To them, Christianity is just a casual thing, not a dominant force in their lives. Moreover, those who do take their religion seriously subscribe to many contradictory beliefs and even to differing moral standards. And they are divided by national, racial, and economic differences. In addition, they have victimized one another, even persecuting, waging war with, and killing one another. Thus, the two greatest wars in history were basically fought between “Christian” nations.
What conclusion can we draw from this?
That either Christianity is not the true religion or there is a big difference between merely claiming to be a Christian and actually being one. According to Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, the second conclusion is the correct one. On one occasion, he spoke about some who would address him as “Lord, Lord.” In other words, they would claim to be Christians, accepting Jesus as their Lord. And they would be very busy doing seemingly important works in his name. Yet Jesus would say to them: “I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness.”—Matthew 7:22, 23.

Christianity involves many things. For example, the real Christian has to have a strong faith in God, for “without faith it is impossible to please [God] well.” (Hebrews 11:6) He also has to be engaged in right works. The disciple James warned that “faith without works is dead.” (James 2:26) Moreover, the apostle Paul stressed the importance of having “accurate knowledge of [God’s] will in all wisdom and spiritual comprehension.” (Colossians 1:9) But none of these things provide the key to Christianity.
The fact is, we may have a good Bible knowledge and strong faith and be quite busy in good works, yet be mere imitation Christians.
Yes, the key to recognizing the true religion is appreciating that it is based on genuine love. Our faith, good works, and accurate knowledge are vital, indispensable
So if when looking at the religions you do not see these things, this means that this religion isn’t approved by God, so cannot be the truth.
Yet there is only one true religion which serves the only true God and practices his word like he says……read the bible you will surely understand of who I am talking about.

Someone said if you wanted to get rich start your own church.
There are many religions because everyone has their own interpretation of what Jesus said. Some religions does not even recognize Jesus as the Savior of mankind. Those are the ones especially to be careful of.The correct religion is the Bible based one. Some people argue that the Bible has been rewritten so many times that it is not accurate any more.Baloney! Trust the King James version as it is the most accurate translation.

There is only one God. All the religions of the world are there to confuse mankind from knowing which is right.
Actually religion has nothing to do with God. No its a relationship with the Almighty, through His Son Jesus.

Probably because each different religion found things in the Bible that they agreed/disagreed with; the ones who agreed with certain things started a religion of their own to be different from the ones who believed something else.

Actually, Satan made himself a god in the garden of Eden, and it serves his purpose to decieve people and for there to be so many different religions , even though many of them believe in a lot of the same things like heaven , hell, and an immortal soul. I think the best verse that sums it up is 1 Corinthians 8; 5,6 " For even though there are those who are called gods, whether in heavens or on earth, just as there are many gods and many lords, there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him, and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him."
