U.S. police arrested an 83-year-old woman on suspicion of entering California from Mexico with 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of methamphetamine strapped to her body, officials said on Thursday.

The woman, who is a U.S. citizen, and two Mexican nationals were arrested in San Ysidro, California, on Monday as they drove north from Tijuana, Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Angelica De Cima said officers at a U.S. border crossing stopped their car and found the drugs strapped to the body of the retiree and a 40-year-old Mexican woman.

Both women were passengers in the vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Mexican man.

"It's very unusual for us to arrest such an elderly smuggler, but it's not unique," De Cima told Reuters by telephone. "We are catching more drugs at the port and so the Mexican cartels are using more creative techniques to try and get away with it."

San Ysidro, located a few miles (km) south of San Diego, is a key transit point used by Mexican drug cartels to smuggle cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine to U.S. markets.

Methamphetamine, a synthetic stimulant, is prepared in so-called "super labs" in Tijuana and shipped north to market in California, where the chemicals used to make it are more strictly controlled.

De Cima said seizures of methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin had jumped by at least 25 percent at the San Ysidro crossing in the last 12 months.

Bigtips, it never fails, there is always some wiseASS who shows up to spout stupidity and never answers the damn question. I guess it's you this time.

Hexador you are right.

Angela, I never thought I would say this but I agree with you.

Nancy, you NEVER give a sincere answer, always a smartalek one instead. Why don't you find a hobby or something? If you haven't figured out "Have you seen this?" is a question, you are even dumber than I thought.

I don't see anything wrong with your question, I guess some people just do not want to here the truth, I also saw where the minute men have slowed the flow of drugs into the country, the authorities have seized less drugs, like marijuana because of the minute men, so I think they are doing a good job. I like your posts because a lot of them you don't see on the news or read in the paper. I feel sorry for the old lady though, maybe she was desperate and had no money.

Is this 83 year women a hippie or what? Did the cops have a hard time catching her?

Very strange article indeed. Hard to believe.

I don't get some of the other posts---baaaad-is it. Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time.. I think I’ve forgotten this before . How strange are some of the posts-very. I will have some tea and sip on it while I think about it.

The same thing I thought before the question was pulled for no reason:

That's almost as low as having a baby or small child smuggle in drugs. If they haven't already started doing that, I'm sure they will soon.

Think of it from another point of view, maybe this person HAD to do this. Maybe she needed the money to pay for her own medicine or rent or food. Sometimes in our life we are faced with doing things that are illegal and stripping of dignity.

Its such a sad world when only the rich get help and the poor keep helping the rich run the country.

Heard about it last week. Was she trying to come in illegally? Why do all your questions say that they have been removed, is it so everyone will look at your questions?

At the risk of being called names, what is the "damn question".. if you asked one we could answer it... and even though a lot of other people said the same thing go ahead and attack me like you always do. My answer, No, I haven't seen it .. don't open links.. and I never read your biased reporting any other question?

Hey Renegade
I was quoting your "wife". that was her curse word. You should be used to it.
