It's a useful metaphor.

The name of the wicked doesn't have to be obliterated; it can live on as an example and a caution, that such acts could happen again.

Conversely, people who've lived good lives can live on as inspiration to those of us who are still here.

Michael X is right -- the only afterlife we can count on is being remembered, and influencing other people, after we've gone.

Yesh Kochavim (There are Stars)
by Hannah Senesh

There are stars whose light reaches earth
Only as they themselves are lost and are no more.
There are people whose radiance illumines their memories
When they themselves are no longer in our midst.
These lights that cause the darkest night to shine
They - THEY light the way for humanity.

Amen! It is true, as is the rest of the BIble.

As the play "Wicked" truthfully puts it, "No one mourns the wicked."

The righteous will be looked up to and blessed by God, but the wicked be remembered only in a negative way, and God will curse them.

God bless!

Proverbs 10:7
means simply:
Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten.

I think it is true in God's kingdom but in man's world we make hero's of evil people.

Very true. I had not thought of that verse for a long time. The memory of those who do not live righteously may teach us things but they are not a blessing to us....teach us how not to live but not how to live.

Remembering good people is a blessing and forgetting the bad is something we'd all like to do.

Reads like truth.

I don't think so, but proverbs say a lot of things and no lay person understands

Hitler seems set to be remembered for a long time. Napoleon seems set. Manson seems set.

Anyone catch the names of any of the innocent girls who died in Pennsylvania recently?

Nope, can't agree with this one.

Yes, it's true. That's the ONLY afterlife we will ever have - to be REMEMBERED by our loved ones and CURSED by our enemies. Try to have few enemies.

Sure,

The memory of Hitler is rot.

The memory of Jesus is a Blessing.

Peace!
