I think it depends on what kind of career that you want. And what is important to you. I would suggest that you talk to some people in each branch to see how they feel about it. I have spoken to some people in the Army that wished they have joined the Air Force. They say that the Air Force treats their people better. I don't know though. While both branches deploy the Army's deployment are longer than the Air Force right now. The Air Force normally is 4 to 6 months and I think the Army's can be 12 - 18 months. But that not matter to you. I would decide what kind of jobs you would want to do and then figure out which branch you could definately do the job in. And you might want to compare them in which would leave you better off when you are done with your enlistment.

If you can get into the air force (which has stricter entrance requirements than all other branches) then the best choice would be air force because of the standard of living. However your career field will also be a deciding factor, but the air force is said to be a great branch for technical careers and I don't know what is the army's strong point. I was in the navy and I noticed the air force will pay more for a students training in a better more broadened field. So this all goes without saying- If it's harder to get into the air force then that makes it elite. You have to consider what you will do when you get out of the service. Plus the air force girls were by far the cutest ones. I wouldn't touch an army girl with a ten foot pole. We all knew the air force [girls] were the smart ones and the army [girls] were to tough to date.
So if you want to work with your brain go A.F. if you want to work with your body go army.

Cross into the Blue. Join the United States Air Force, the world's premier aerospace power...... Ok, that's sounds like I'm a recruiter, but I'm not.

Speaking from experience, if you want to learn stuffs about electronics, fancy gadgets and the likes, the Air Force has a lot to offer. Your best bet, if you want to work with computers, is to specialize in electronics, communications, or computers. As an enlisted, if you have those ratings, its pretty easy to climb up the ranks. As an officer, you get the chance to learn about those stuffs and get to attend technology seminars (rather frequently, and for free), plus the fact that the Air Force is hurting for people with this kind of knowledge and skills makes it easier for you to get in.

The pay might not be a lot in the beginning but once you get promoted up, its a pretty big jump. The catch however, is that you need to score really well in a lot of tests that will be thrown at you. And also expect to burn tons of midnight oil if you want to ace your tests.

If you want to be a pilot, ditto for that as well, plus don't expect to fly anytime soon. Its a lot of books, lectures, and ground school theory before you even step onto a trainer jet.

Good luck.

I spent my Career in the Air Force so I would advise you to join the Air Force. HOWEVER, do not let your recruiter just "recruit" you into anything. be very selective of the careerfield that you choose. Do not go in "Open General" or anything that resembles that. You want to familiarize yourself with the jobs that are available to you and take time to think things through. You want a job that will transition well into civilian life.

The Air Force is a better service for women in my personal opinion, however, military life is not easy. Know what you're getting into. I wish you well!

I am Air Force (not a recruiter). I have enjoyed my career all 14+ years of it to date. I am an Airborne Mission System Specialist and can not think of a better job in the Air Force. So if you want a good job that even pays more than the rest tell the recruiter you want to be a 1A3X1. Best of luck with you choice.

Dear let me speak to you as if you were my daughter. It is simple do you want to a dead hero or an alive service person? Join the Air Force preferable and take this school http://www.monterey.army.mil/index.asp. If you took Chinese or Farsi you can come out and go straight to work for the CIA or NSA as a 13. Great career and one other thing you would obtain an Associated Degree for completing the school. Remember me on Fathers Day. God Bless you and the Southern People.

My son is currently in Air Force basic training. The educational opprotunities alone should make it easy to choose the Air Force. Are you ready to spend two or three years out of the next 4 in 140 degree IRAQ? Then join the army, if you are 42 or younger they will be glad to grind you up. Soon it will be 62 or younger!

Go Air Force.
One of the best organization I've ever worked for.
Air Force offers may civilian applicable jobs, unlike the other services. How many tank driver jobs have you ever seen posted??
I learned a great career field in the AF and it has served me very nicely since leaving.

I would say which ever one suits your personality and will the best. I'm proud that you're considering joining the military at all, especially during these times we live in. If no one joined the military because of the "conflicts" we wouldn't really have protection would we? There's no "safest" military job, whether you're Coast Guard or Marines, they all have their downsides where safety comes to play.

Ask yourself what you want to get from your enlistment and go from there. Do you want to be career or do your four years and out and on to something else civilian. If you want four years and out, what can you see yourself doing for the rest of your life? My brother is currently a Marine stationed in Camp Lejuene and he is in motor transport. Now, when one looks at that from the outside they see humvees and tanks, but knowing it from the inside, he's going to have a better chance at the lucrative high end mechanics positions we have out there. And no matter what job you choose, just by simply having a military education your chances of employment shoot through the roof. Employers want people who have discipline, smarts, teamwork, and dedication, all of which you will get from any branch you decide to join. Not to mention you'll have a foot in the door when it comes to government jobs too.
