Is it to stifle certain types of discussion? Do you want to dictate the direction of future discussions? By repeatedly asking and re-asking questions are you truly looking for new and different perspectives, or do you want the "same old, same old" recycled so that people don't forget about it?
Do any of you really hope, by whatever you do or say within Yahoo!Answers that you might discourage some people from participating? If you could, would you want to completely dissuade some people from participating in the discussions of say, Religion and Spirituality? Do you ever ask a question with the intent that only certain people answer it, as you will ignore certain answers, because of either their content or because of who is asking it?
Do I get penalized for having multiple questions?

When I ask a question I want people to give it serious thought when they answer. I want them to look at something they may not have looked at before and examine it carefully. I don't care whether it calls them to question their personal beliefs or strengthens them -- there again, questioning can lead to strengthening. I just want people to *think* about why they believe what they believe. I have no interest in making them believe what I believe.

"Do I get penalized for having multiple questions?"
No. And thanks for the smile this question generated!
I think you've pretty much covered it all with your own questions pertaining to intent. In my case, I ask with the intent of getting different perspectives on the topic. And believe me when I say, seeing some of the answers I've received has been a huge eye-opener.
The biggest eye-opening is just how fundamentally intolerant people are when it comes to various and different belief systems. Coming to the R & S section has made me understand the core root of hatred and bigotry towards the "other." I have found that the core issue is the sincere belief that a particular religion is the only way and without it, X, Y & Z will happen to you. In the negative, of course.
How can human beings come to a meeting of the minds and an understanding of each other if the "other" is immediately suspect because they do not believe as you do?
Given that with each passing year our world continues to get smaller and smaller due to new and better technology, I find this continued attitude towards the "other" to be extremely disheartening. Will we end up killing each other due to our different perceiptions of what god is? And do it out of a misguided idea of love?

My intent varies with the question. Some questions I might want certain people to respond more than others although I can request that, I can not control it. A question should seek an answer.
No penalty, but with that many questions it takes too long to answer each one!

While I have answered many questions on this forum, I have never asked one. If I were to ask one, it would be because I really wanted to know the answer. it would not be because I wanted to be attacked by the many people on here with very, very strong opinions. I enjoy reading the q&a, and there r many good answers. Unfortunately, I think the bad ones outnumber the good ones.

I would like to think I asked a question because I wanted a true depiction of someone else's thoughts, feelings and opinions on whatever subject I was asking about.

When I ask a question I hope I am giving people a chuckle and maybe, just maybe that they can see that people who do not believe in God are not horrible mean hopeless people. It may not work that way but that is my intent.

My intent when asking a question is to find out if others have had similar experiences to me. Also if I truly want to know something or know someone's viewpoint.

Most of my questions are posed to make both sides think. I'm truly interested in all answers.
