Can being just a few lbs over weight make you have difficultly breathing?
I am just about 5-10 lbs over weight. I do have thyroid disease which is why I gained the weight in the first place and now that is controlled by medication and I have lost 25 lbs since I found out. I have gained a little back but not much because I just went through a bad time but now I'm better and I'm getting back to my good routine of exercising and watching what I eat. But I have trouble breathing, it feels like I can't get enough air no matter how hard I try. I have to work hard to breath. I told my doctor when he was doing tests to find out if I had Thyroid disease and he said that it was probably my Thyroid that was causing it but it hasn't gotten any better its gotten worse. Could it be because of the extra weight?

The thing is I don't have to do anything to get out of breath just sitting here. It gets better while I am exercising. I have an inhaler it makes things worse and make me feel weird.

5 - 10lbs would have no effect on your breathing whatsoever. It's simply not enough weight to be putting significant extra stress on your body. Sounds like you need to improve your cardio fitness.

5 to 10 lbs. shouldnt make that much difference in ur breathing.have a dr. check u with a spirometer, which measures volume of air intake with each breath.sure sounds like u may have excercise-induced asthma,a common problem due to exerting oneself, and all the air pollution today.a simple test,so ask about this.then,if u have it,u may need an inhaler.have dr listen to ur heart and/or do an ecg.(also called ekg in some places.0in some cases, shortness of breath is caused by a heart problem.dont panic-probably not the case, especially if ur young, but it doesnt hurt to check.better safe than sorry. well, good luck.im just starting to lose my thyroid weight ,too, and i am about 30 pounds overweight, but i dont have trouble breathing when i excercise, thats why i suggest checking for asthma. source-former nurse.ps-hang in there-takes what seems like a long while for the thyroid meds to kick in,but when they do-wow ! i feel like a new woman !!!!
