Who knows? Only if it was discovered by some other murderer who committed genocide.

It's been proven that the Vikings were in the Americas about 500 years before Columbus, so it is ludicrous that we continue to celebrate this holiday of someone who helped to annhilate the indigenous people of this hemisphere.

surely Columbus was not the first one to discover America,
didn't he find the red Indians there?
so, They did discover America and lived there before him,
But you may still celebrate him as the first Europeans to get there

We do, eventhough there is proof of others arriving first. Columbus, however, marked the beginning of the conquest of the Americas for the European Crowns. Was that good? Who can say? I wouldn't be alive, today, if it hadn't have occured.

We're going to start having an Erik the Red Day. I feel, this celebration should be commemorated with viking hats and large mugs of beer.

Lot of places don't celebrate it any more except for the feds. In our state, we traded it for MLK's birthday. Bad trade, though--who wants off in January! Don't know why we could not honor MLK on some nice day in the spring or summer--maybe when he said his big speech!
