I wish to add a portable water heater to my truck for when I go camping. It needs 110 Volts DC but for quicker heating it needs up to 220V. Do I need to make a circuit? If so what components do I pucrchase etc..

Thank you in advance!

it is probably 110/220V AC. an inverter will switch direct current (DC) to alternating current(AC), but before you buy, check the AMPS needed for you heater. if it requires 10 amps and the inverter only produces current at 5 amps, the heater wont work. I like the other guys idea, use propane from a small grill sized propane tank.

BUNGA is totally right. Even if you can get an inverter powerful enough to handle 10amps at 240 Volts you will overload truck fuses alternator, battery. Use gas to boil water!

But if you must "inverter" is the device. You can buy them ready made, assemble from a kit, or make from scratch. Have not looked but I would expect to find plans on the web.

Maplins is the shop you want [well in UK/Ireland it is]

Any thing that produces heat (water heater, space heater, etc) draws lots of power and an inverter wouldn't be up to the task.
Use propane to heat water.

If you mean 110/220V AC, you can buy a converter that plugs into your cigarette lighter and has receptacle to plug any appliance requiring 110V AC.

If you want to heat electrically, there's no need to use an inverter.

There are several devices that I know of that can use 12v without the conversion losses.
