It all depends on whether you believe in evolution or creationism...

If you believe in creationism the chicken came first because "God created all beasts large and small" I paraphrase but it says he created the beasts not the eggs...

If however you believe in evolution the egg came first... As a new species evolved from an old species... The egg was first as the chicken (the new species) came from the egg...

Now, why did the chicken cross the road???

The chicken must have come first. There could not be a chicken egg if there was not a chicken to lay it.
From Science: There could be a chicken produced from a test tube. Where ever chickens originated, it was some spark of nature that ignited chemicals and created the animal that we know as chicken.
From God: God would not have created an egg to sit there and be all cold and never develop since there would be no chicken to sit on it. So he would have just created a chicken.

The chicken came first.

As the species like evrything else evolved the changes come from the way the eggs develop.

So lets say you had a creature that was the ancestor of the chicken it had to evolve to stay ahead of the game so its offspring evolved so next generation had a slightly different attribute that evolved and then next generation slightly different still and so on and so on.

After a million years or so finally a chicken is hatched from and egg but 1000 generations before it may have been a duck and evolved.

So the answer is categorically the egg.

You probably did not get a serious answer because it's not a serious question. I'm going to give you a serious answer anyway. Here it goes.

If you believe in creationism then the answer is: The one that god created first.

If you'd rather use science, then we know that chickens, just as other birds, evolved from (probably) reptilians. Reptilians were born in eggs. Therefore the egg came first.

Note that the evolutionary conjecture can be disproved, [science] whereas the creationist conjecture cannot [not a science]

The chicken because God created living things and Noah put two of them on the ark, so to that theory, the egg came after God had created the chickens.

The Egg came first, rolled over and went to sleep, leaving the Chicken to finish herself off.

It depends: Many Christians believe Chicken.
Many Evolutionists believe the Egg.

I believe Egg - simply because animals evolved into Chickens, and many animals had Eggs before Chickens existed.

My 14 year old daughter and I were just having this conversation 2 weeks ago. We both believe in the bible and all of its words. The world is a magical place and GOD created everything and we both decided that the chicken came first , GOD filled the ark with two of each species of animal, male and female I think GOD created the animals then made it possible to reproduce. So our answer is the chicken!! Did this make since to you or are we just looking at it wrong???
