He's a great guy and I really like him but HATE going over to his house because his dog smells and there is hair everywhere. It's such a turn off. It's only been a month and I'm trying to be understanding as I know he loves his dog. I'm a neat freak and smells REALLY bother me. Please help.

Give the dog a bath. Or make an event of it, take the dog to the groomers with your man. It shows your man that you like the dog, and you aren't trying to convince him to get rid of it.

Get him a gift certificate for a pet groomer's. Or, offer to dog-sit if he goes out of town, and take the dog to the groomer's, call the maid service, etc.

Or, you can just be up front with him. Keeping something like that from him early in the relationship may set a precedent for just tolerating things, and when those things build up, and are not expressed, relationships end really fast.

Offer to help him give the dog a bath. Even dogs need to take a bath once in a while. It will help with the hair problem and the smell too.

Sit down and talk to the guy and tell him how you feel about his smelly dog and all the dog hair and maybe you can offer to give the dog a bath and vacumm the place? That should tell him something?

Then I guess these last 30 days have proven that you and he aren't compatible. I wouldn't like it either, so I'd probably find someone who took more care to clean up after their animal. ICK! It's not a very pleasant way to live, so maybe you need to find someone agrees with you feelings on dog hair and stink. (I couldn't date him- I'd be too grossed out and wonder if he cleans his toilet or washes his sheets??)
And I really don't think it's your responsibility to start cleaning up after and bathing his animal.

Talk to him, and let him know that its either you or the dog. He will choose the dog of course, so better get another guy before you do this.

Tell him to wash his dog; if that doesn't work, tell him something like if he doesn't wash his dog, his dog can contract diseases which will shorten his lifespan greatly. Sure, its probably not true, but he might get the point.

Get one of those air freshener things that they have in the commercials. He's probably used to the smell and doesn't notice it anymore.
