Hmm..if you used a box to dye your hair..call the number on the box and tell them exactly what you did and ask them if you can lighten it. I wouldn't recomend it though because red pigmentation in hair is really hard to just overcome..it might turn out all sorts of weird colours.

Hm if you lighten it on your own it will probably turn out a pinkish orange. Go to a salon. You can try to get some of the red out before you go in and that would ease the price a bit. Get a malibu treatment from Sallys or something its just a packet you mix with hot/warm water and apply it to your hair, let it sit for 20-30 mins under some heat or put a bag on your head. That should pull out some of the color. I would say a salon would do that as a first step anyway, so you can cut that off your bill. But messing with color is not something you should do on your own. You will probably end up worse than you are now and you could really damage your hair.

Fixing the color depends on what you did to it. If you just used a pigment (like Manic Panic or another vegetable dye, or something like Kool-Aid), then it should be no problem. If you used a temporary color, or something that is meant to wash out in a certain number of weeks/ washings, then you have a good chance of correcting it to whatever color you want. However, if your hair color has been stripped (if you previously used a lightening color, or if you stripped the color before dying it red), then you might have some problems. If you have your hair dyed or permed/ straightened fairly often, then the quality of your hair will affect your ability to correct the color.

You could also dye it a darker shade, like brown, with a low-peroxide, non-permanent dye, to tone down the red.

If I were you, I would go to a salon that specializes in color correction, and get an evaluation from a qualified colorist.

i am a stylist and I'm here to help you. First step away from the PC and listen..
1 there is no such thing as a hair stripper. What most folks do is use a word associated with removing paint.
2 what is commonly used to TRY to remove the color is a powdered bleach. It rarely works and is very damaging to the hair.
3 The amount of color removed varies as to the color your trying to remove. Usually it is patchy and messy. not removing all The color evenly and also tends to leave a very ugly yellow in spots.
4 If I were you I would find a salon that has a color specialist if you can. If not call around until you find a salon that carries a product called Elimin8. It is made by Rusk. It is a color remover, what it does is remove oxidized color. That means, if the color in your hair is a permanent color or a demi color it was activated by peroxide. If it is an oxidized color it will remove it evenly and with very little stress to your fine hair. Good luck!

Well, I have been a professional hairstylist for over 17 years, it depends on what you mean by "lighten", if you want to make it back to your natural color, see a professional. if the color is a little too dark or too bright, the color will fade after several washes, red hair fades the quickest. If you just want to add some highlights, no problem, you can go to a salon and have it highlighted, or try a streaking kit at home. good luck. I hope that helps.

No it's not but you'll have to do it gradually with some dyes (check on the box, it may say you need pre lightener) but if you're at all worried, just go to a hair dressers to sort it out, that's probably the best bet (that's what i'm going to do; mine went too dark when i dyed it too!)

You can always try to lighten it, but keep in mind that it may turn strawberry-blond, which isn't a bad color, cause it's pretty natural-looking, but if you don't like it just see a hairstylist, they usually have the best tips....
Btw, next time, try useing a non-permanent, wash-out hair-dye to see if you like it, like wearing a fake earring before you actually get the piercing, to see how people react and if you like it

It will fade over the ext few weeks with every wash - i have just done mine brown sugar from blonde and it was really dark to start with but it has faded immeasurably with washing - try not to rebleach as it may take all the pigment out and go khaki coloured!

i had done something like that to my hair also. i asked the same question more or less that u just did. i was told by someone to go out buy the frosting kit that uses the hat and you pull your hair thru the holes. after you have used it your hair will be lighter and look great. at least it worked for me. i thought i was dying my hair a strawberry blonde but it turned out looking like a shinny new penny. after i frosted it, it came out something close to strawberry blonde. good luck to ya

You could dye it however the more you dye it the more it will destroy the health of your hair.
My newphew dyed his quite often and now his hair is falling out.
My advice to you is to have a professional dye it or let it grow out before you dye it again.
