So that they don't accidentally smash their brains out when they inevitably fall off. Surely you didn't need the Internet to work that one out!!

Your daughter and son-in-law are also well aware of the risks, which, quite frankly are quite low. I never wore a helmet on a bike and I bet that you didn't either and we're both here - despite falling off.

The number one cause of childhood disability is head injury. The vast majority of which can be prevented with a little common sense.

We didn't have bike helmets when I was young but they are here today. It is not just falling over or off that causes kids to get hurt on bikes. Cars do as well, a helmet will help to lesson the injury even in a car accident.

Very plain and simple. If they fall off their bikes and are not wearing a helmet, it is very easy to cause brain damage. Also, God forbid a car were to hit into them while they were driving, they would more than likely suffer too much trauma to the head and either bleed to death or go into a coma.

Safety reasons, obviously. Had a kid get injured here by hitting his head on the side view mirror of a car. Put him in a coma, had to relearn motor skills and has memory loss. He'd have been a lot better off with a helmet, believe me.

most states have helmet laws. check with your grandchild's school or your local law enforcement office to find out if kids are required to wear helmets in your area. parents can get a citation for not having the child helmeted. also, there are agencies that will help parents with the cost of a helmet if they cannot afford one. not just that, but for safety. who wants to have their head cracked open???

They need to wear it!! An exzample is: (don't take this 4 real) If a they flipped over and hit their head there would be a major accident!! If they wore a helment they would have at least been protected a little!! Think about it.

So that when they're older they can spell kids with an i instead of an e. They won't have lost so many brain cells from falling that they know how to spell correctly and/or know how to click the "check spelling" button.

I love xxxxxxx's answer below me.
