There are several places where wireless connections to the internet are just not possible. You may do better with a handheld GPS receiver that would work independently of your laptop. It would also be an easier tax deduction because you could show that you used it specifically for the business of driving your truck.

all computers require internet for you to use gps, there are some LAPTOPS out there that have a built in phone so to speak, this allow you to drive anywhere and still have an internet connection. depending on who the service provider is of course. or you can get a laptop with built in wi-fi which only requires a hotspot to get internet. and im not sure of alot of truck stops have those....

I hate to say this, but they all require an internet connection of one kind or another. You may want to look into Sprints Wireless Broadband solution they are offering right now - they will give you the wireless card for your laptop for free for signing up for their service.

You can buy just GPS for your Truck, and you can use that, instead of using laptop. You can find GPS on this site
