how about glue and glitter? Of gather some fall leaves and have them decorate with them. Or put them in groups and have them make a center piece ( that might be too old for them)

I remember playing this game in kindergarden; maybe it will work for you. Good Luck!
PUMPKIN PASSING GAME
Materials Needed:
Mini Pumpkins
Music
Paint or Markers
Instructions:
There are no losers in this game if you make sure you have enough mini pumpkins for everyone! As each player gets 'out', give them a small pumpkin and let them go to a designated area and decorate it using markers or paint.
This game is played the same way as 'Hot Potato'. Everyone who is playing sits or stands in a circle. Start the music and start passing a small pumpkin around the circle. If you have quite a few people, you can pass 2 or more pumpkins at a time.
The pumpkin travels around the circle of people until the music suddenly stops.
The person who is holding the pumpkin when the music stops is 'out' and leaves the circle.
Start the music and pumpkin passing again and continue until there's only one person left. The last person gets a special prize! They all get to keep the pumpkin they decorated.

I love doing stuff like arts and crafts. My son is 17 months old and were making a mini pumpkin wreath. I'm also going to get some sturdy sticks to poke through the bottom of them to stick in the ground and decorate the front of our house. You can also get little plastic jewels and have them glue them to the mini pumpkins. Have you ever tried using the mini's for candle holders. Gut the inside of it completely and get a nice thick candle and place inside. You can also make a pumpkin tree. Trees aren't just for Christmas. Get an artificial Christmas tree and decorate it with pumpkins. You can have them make cotton pumpkins, by gluing cotton balls all over the little pumpkin. You can gut the pumpkin and make flower pots, or candy dish, or put what ever you want inside. Go to www.ask.com and it will also guide you to arts and crafts. They have www.ask.com for kids as well. Try that and see what you find.

Get little felt add-ons and have them decorate the pumpkins like a turkey or like a pilgrim scene?
Throw rings and see who can get the most around the pumpkin?
Dress the pumpkins up in Halloween costumes - possibly matching the kids own costumes?
Lots of ideas here (not all of them are especially useful, but there are over 100...)

Last year, my son's 2 year old's class came home with painted pumpkins. The teacher wrote their names on the bottom with a sharpie. They all turned out really cute. I think gluing things on is tricky when it comes to keeping them glued. Glitter and glue sounds like fun, but a mess-usually 4 and 5 year olds aren't quite as messy as 2's, though. I guess it depends on how messy you want to get with the fun!

I have had my kids take some pictures of themselves and our family and glue those onto the pumpkin, and other things they are thankful for. It makes a great conversation piece at dinner or for family time. Amazing stories to be heard.
