Mormon Article of Faith #11:
"We claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."
One of the three missions of the LDS Church:
"To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation."
So, which side of the fence do Mormons fall on... "live and let live" or "our way is the only way?" Does it depend on the sect of Mormonism?
Would love to hear feedback from Mormons about this official contradiction between faith and mission.

Thanks for the many wonderful answers so far.
I'm sensing a general pattern that most Mormons share (ie proclaim) their faith to a stranger/friend but then should leave the non-Mormon alone (to live and let live) when that person tells them to.
Hopefully, I'm understanding correctly. Thanks again for your great answers.

Both, we proclaim the gospel and give people the choice to accept or reject it...after that it's live and let live.
I ride motorcyles too BTW :)

I don't see it as a contridiction. We follow them both. I can't speak for those members of the church you have come in contact with, who may have had trouble understanding no means no, but as for me, I see it like this. I worship the way I want to, and allow you to worship (or not worship) the way you want to. At some point I may feel like you would benefit from learning what I know, as it relates to religion, so in trying to follow the three-fold mission of the Church, I "proclaim the gospel" by asking you to go to church with me, or asking some question that I think might lead us into talking about the church. I've therefore "done my duty" in proclaiming the gospel. If you tell me that you are happy with the faith you are a part of, or in some way let me know that you don't want to hear anymore about the Mormon church, then I'm fine with that, and back off. Thus allowing you to "worship how, where, or what [you] may."
Now, some members may have a hard time accepting the fact that you don't want to hear anything about the church. It's because they are so happy and joyful that they can't (nor can I) imagine someone NOT wanting to have this peace, this contentment, this joy that we have. So they continue to ask, or bring up something that you do not want to hear about. I'm sorry if this has offended you. Perhaps if you tell them that you understand that the Mormon faith works for them, and that you're not saying that it might not work for you in the future, but that right now, it doesn't seem to be the right religion/way of life for you, but now that you know they are willing to share their faith with you, you will contact them if your feelings ever change about it. And (if you were friends before this) that you hope this won't affect your friendship.
UPDATE: Just read your details. Yes, you have it right.

It means basically what it states. We worship God and respect how/what/who others worship and expect the same respect.
We also believe we should share the gospel. Sharing does not mean we are saying you cannot believe in what you do. Sharing the gospel is exactly that: sharing. I do not see the contradiction. It does not state, we want to worship God and so MUST everyone else. By sharing the gospel through missionary work, many are brought in to the truth, many are not. Those who choose to are, those who ask to be left alone or are uninterested, are not. Simple as that.

I'm LDS and I have many friends who are not. We should have the attitude of sharing what we believe in, but give others the choice whether or not to accept it, and respect their decision. There's mormons who are a little too gung-ho about it and are a little in the face, but the rest of the religion shouldn't be judged by their misplaced enthusiasm.

Well, we let people live the way they choose to live, we do not stop them or protest against those that worship they way they want to.
Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, Key word proclaim, that does not mean force people to join our church.

I certainly have not heard of the Church dictating what yet another church would coach or prepare. we haven't violated our Article of religion. yet I certainly have heard different church homes attempting to alter our practices and ideology, that's a contravention of our non secular perspectives. and you'd be able to desire to do extra analyze earlier you're making claims. The Church by no potential prepared any assaults on gays or church homes over their practices. The Church has been asked to connect coalitions, whether it truly is been the final to be asked to connect. How ought to we be the organizers if we are the final to be asked? And, my understanding is that those are appropriate to the term 'marriage', and that's between a guy and a woman. Plus, you would be able to desire to get your data superb. The Church reported that it has no situation with gays having Civil Unions or family family that could furnish the comparable advantages that a marriage between a guy and lady could furnish. So the Church has no longer located a ban on Civil Unions and family family. Now, in this Church, there's a ban on premarial intercourse, which gay family are decrease than, and it is Biblical. yet we by no potential tell different church homes to do the comparable. we are in easy terms enthusiastic about this Church and its practices.

We want to worship how we believe. We also would like to share our believes. But we also believe everyone has their own choice to worship as they will. We would like them to listen to our believes but they can accept or reject them and worship as they please.

I hope that analogy/parable works for you and helps you.

I am not a Mormon, however, after doing some reading about the Mormon religion, I have found that they believe that their religion is "the only way." Everybody else who is not Mormon is a heathen and is condemned to hell. All of this stems from the infamous Joseph Smith who wrote the Book of Mormon and he got his revelations from finding a stone in the ground, putting it in a hat and sticking his face in the hat which brought him "God's word".
To me this is utter bullsh**t. But to a Mormon, they are promised to be "royalty" in heaven because they live by this quack's revelations.
