Can a person of average intelligence become a special ops soldier? Or do they have to be like highly intelligent gifted type people? If you are a special ops soldier do you enjoy it and is it everything you thought it would be? Im extremely interested in it, but i dont really know if i have what it takes. I dont know if im smart enough. I only scored a 70 on my ASVAB. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do exactly to prepare?
And by special ops i mean Army Special Forces. Navy SEAL. Marine RECON (force recon) Ranger, delta etc.

Why would anyone of average intelligence want to be Delta? Do you realize all my medals and $ 3.00 will get me a cup of coffee at Starbucks. If your killed no one besides your family will remember your name and even they'll forget. Take a look at the stars on the walls of the CIA, no one knows or even cares. I can remember many a night wonder what in the hell I was doing there. I did blow a ambush on a tiger which was funny until we were told they traveled in pairs. You'll be screwed up mentally and physically the rest of your life and the Veterans Hospital will make you wait for hours and then tell you losing three fingers is no big deal. Would I do it again? Yea! But you really need to think about every angle and possibility. Good Luck and God Bless you and the Southern People.

Ex Air Force special ops here. The "intelligence" factor for spec ops varies on the unit you want to be part of. You do not need to be overly intelligent to be a Ranger they will train you (and I am in no way saying they are stupid). Navy SEALS and Army Special Forces are pretty intelligent guys. Air Force Special Ops (PJs) are very intelligent also. You will want to retake the ASVAB and shoot for higher than a 70.

You scored high on the ASVAB so don't sell yourself short! You qualified for the college program if you're interested and you can get an enlistment bonus up to 25,000 dollars if you choose the right field. You will be trained in whatever field you choose. The Navy Seals are an elite group as well as the Army Special Forces. You will also qualify for combat pay. You are an intelligent person. Make your choice and give it your all!!!!!!

A score of 70 on your ASVAB is nothing to complain about. Most people joining the military score a lot lower than that. The minimum you can score is around 35 to be let in without a waiver. If you really want to do it, go for it. We need more special forces people out there doing the stuff that most people never hear about. You need to be really athletic, not like a ripped, muscle-bound idiot, but running, swimming types of athletic. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat, so that's more weight you'd have to be humping around in addition to your pack and your weapon. You also have to be in the military for a while before you can join any of the special forces. Most of them won't let you go out for it until you're an E-5 or so.

I'm certainly no expert on the military however I would imagine that a person of average intelligence can be a special ops soldier.

I think that in order to become a member of a special forces unit it is mostly a matter of hard work, VERY hard work. But even those who are intelligent and work very hard may not be able to become part of a special forces unit.

Good luck.

You have to be pretty intelligent. There's also a training course that you have to take, and if you fail you're done. It's a difficult thing to acheive, but once you're there it's very rewarding.

The army website for special forces should answer some questions, and you can check out the other branches' sites for more information.

I don't claim to know a lot about this subject, but I do know it takes hard work. Not just physical but mental as well. Any of the Special Forces schools (to my knowledge) have a waiting list. You do have to have intelligence but also common sense. Good luck to you and I hope you get the one you want.

the 70 is your AFQT. If your GT score is over 110, then you might be able to get in Special Operations.
