What a great topic, as a day care provider to children who are ages 3 and 4 I have found that food games, activities, books and craft projects can teach a variety of subjects, anything from a variety of diet, the food groups, sorting activities, shapes, colors and counting. It can also teach selp-help skills and imaginatory play. I would suggest the following activities with food:

1. The children love a game called "cheerio" bingo. You can purchase this online through though one of the links below.
In the end of the game the children get to eat the cereal (make sure they aren't sharing their bingo pieces).

2. Also another game the children like is called "guess what?". We take one child at a time and blind fold them. We give then give them a small piece of food and see if they can guess what we gave them.

3. "Apples and Oranges" We use fruit from the fruit bowl to learn how to sort. We ask the children to sort by fruit, by color, and by size. They like this game too cause right afterwards we have snack.

4. "Apple smiles" Sometimes when only teaching about a particular food we find a recipe that the children can do as a snack food. Apple smiles is one of many recipes I have in my books. You take an apple and cut into 8 wedges. Then pass out plastic butter knives. Allow the children to take two wedges and put peanut butter only on one side each wedge. Top one of the wedges with with a couple of marshamllows (on the peanut butter). Take the second wedge and place the peanut butter side on top of the first wedge. When you look at the apples it will look like a smile (red skin will look like lips and marshmallows will look like teeth). This usally leads to some silly laughter but the kids enjoy making their own snack.

5. "Ten Apples Up on Top" by Dr. Suess. We have started this lesson with reading the book then we play a racing game with the children carrying apples on their heads.

6. "Egg and a spoon" races. I am sure you remember these races where you attempt to carry an egg on a spoon. I prefer to hard boil mine for it means less of a mess if the eggs drop.

7. "Hot Potato" (but dont actually bake the potato) we do a version of musical chairs with a potato but instead of finding a chair, the person with the potato in their hand when done is out.

8. Cookie decorating is another way to have fun with shapes and food. We bought cookie cutters in different shapes and have the children decorate their cookies with a specific color or with candy pieces in other shapes. We usually save this one for around holidays when sweeter snacks are allowed.

9. Veggie Man or Woman--- Have he children create veggie men or woman on their plates using items like celerly, broccoli, and other veggies. We like to make the veggie dip the hair and then the kiddies get to eat the project afterwards.

10. Make homemade ice cream with the children. You can find recpies almost anywhere on the net for that.

I have lots more ideas with food and even a few websites for you to look at below that may provide you with even more activities.

Hope these helped.

little ones learn early on what they might injury out with. With him being so ill and being given Pediasure, that's extremely candy, he have been given use to the style and mom annoying approximately him. while he replaced into ill it truly is what necessary to be finished, yet now he needs to re-learn how to bite and devour solids. you have got some battles of wills, yet you will could stay reliable and understand that he won't starve. start up with one meal for him to have good foodstuff. i could recommend beginning with breakfast because he would be hungrier. Get some infant crackers (they are sweeter, yet soften interior the mouth and function extra supplements) or yet another transition foodstuff that dissolves interior the mouth. provide water and a small volume of foodstuff, like a tablespoon. as quickly because it is long gone he could have his soy milk. next day provide him slightly extra and shop doing this until eventually he's eating a 'breakfast'. with any luck at this factor he could choose ingredients, yet while no longer do an analogous component with the different 2 foodstuff interior the day. I hate doing all those issues, yet my thoughts are actually not as important as getting my newborn back on the suited track. i'm hoping this is going rapidly and truly for you and that he maintains to be nicely. Take care.

put food on table, apples, bananas, peanuts, crackers, eggs, [hard boiled] cookies,
have them tell you what they are and what color they are
put foods on the table 5 apples, 4 crackers etc...and have them count and tell you how many there are
put the plastic letters on the table a b c and on and have them say each letter until they can recite the whole thing
then mix them up and have each student put 2 or 3 in order and another student do 3 more....
have them practice writing each letter 5 times and help them with neatness in writing them
