My college cafeteria serves "Homo Milk". I don't enjoy the thought or the action of pouring this into my coffee in the morning. I asked them to change it 2 weeks ago, and they didn't. Should I sue? Should I write to the editor of my paper? How should I word myself without attracting a bad reputation?

I know it means homoginized. I just hate having the vision of a steriotypical gay man's ejaculation matter first thing in the morning.

It's simply a typed label on the outside of a canister that can be simply removed and replaced. They didn't do it, and they don't understand my view. Everyone in the cafeteria speaks English as their second language, and I think there may be a cultural barrier here.

Would you prefer Pasteurized Homogenized Milk "PAST HOMO"?

How about Non Fat Pasteurized Homogenized Milk "NON FAT PAST HOMO"?

Does that seem any more ridiculous than a Half Calf No Fat Latte?

How exactly do you milk a half calf? One handed?

And what about half and half? Would that be better?

I can't imagine that this is a Starbucks.

I suggest you take all this material and make a little tounge and cheep humor piece and see if the paper would put it in as a human interest piece.

Who knows you might get a person to take it seriously and picket the place. Stranger things have happened.

BTW, they don't actually whip the cows to make the cream even if you did see it in Willy Wonka. Just wanted to add that one to your letter.

Frankly, it's like pushing a rope uphill, trying to change this very common abbreviation. However, if you really insist on changing the term, you'll need to be creative.

Decide on a theme for your campaign or letter writing. Perhaps "respect for the diversity on our campus"?

Obviously, "homo milk" isn't respectful to the gay group, so let's change it to... "whole milk"? One more letter in the sign, but the word "whole" eliminates any reference to a group. That way, you still have a distinction between 2%, skim, and whole milk.

Instead of writing the paper editor, I'd write to the college campus services chairperson, or the cafeteria authority. Go to the source first instead of agitating the whole campus about a small issue. If the cafeteria authorities (and don't bother with the people serving or selling food, they don't have the power you need to make this change) won't do anything, then it's time to move up the chain of authority. Find out from the campus directory or syllabus who is in charge.

Good luck.

Why exacly would sue them? If you don't like Homogenized milk, then don't drink it, and Simply purchase your own non-homogenized milk. I would not make a big deal out of a little thing considering that most people, more than likely over 90% drink homogenized milk. I understand your concern with the recent realization that homo-milk as you call it has been linked to diseases because of the smaller fat particles. But this is hardly an issue for outrage.

If you want to really make a change in your cafeteria, Put a petitiion up in the cafeteria and hope you get a large nummber of signatures. Then present the petition and your arguement to the powere that be in a professional manner. They will be very likely to take you into consideration at that point.

Threatening a law suit will simply anger them and most likely get you nothing other than someone telling you not not drink the f-ing milk if you dont like it.

Good luck!

Go for the 2% and skip the homo all the way around. Either that or start using half-n-half. It's very good in coffee. If you feel the need to write in the school paper just state nicely that if they are going to be progressive enough to serve homo milk then they should not hold out on lesbo milk and bi-milk. This is after all a free country.

Wow, by "Homo Milk" I suppose you mean milk from women`s breasts?!

Now that`s radical. And a bit unethical in a way. Certanly something that touches people`s moral on the nerve. If you think logically, after all, we all had drank such milk when we were babies. And it is not much different from animal females` milk. Even, it is quite healthy natural product, contains a lot of vitamins and proteins.
As a consumer you have the right of choice here, I don`t know, may be they should provide another kind of milk as well.

Oh, guess that`s not the meaning, haha, LOL, for a moment I really thought they`re selling human milk!

I completely agree with you and I do think that you should either take it up with the Dean of Student Affairs or start a protest of some kind. Regardless of its innocent meaning, it is definitely capable of being taken the wrong way. It is very politically incorrect. What if they started calling eggs fertilized or sterile? Is it really so hard to list exactly the type of milk it is? Why does everyone have to shorthand everything in today's society. Stand up for what you believe in!

Put a couple packets of "Creama" in your pocket or purse. Then you can pass on the Homo Milk. And definitely sue, write your editor...contact your congressman, senator ...ACLU etc. Don't let these scum bags off!! Good Luck !!

You are so funny. But:
You're already bringing your 'own' milk. Squeeze it into yourself into your coffee. Yum!
As for your reputation, I'm sure you'll be quite popular.

We mounted a protest campaign in our cafeteria here in New York. You'll be happy to know the cartons now say "Gay & Lesbian Milk." Fight on sister!

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen on here.

Two things pop to mind.
1. If this is all you've got to worry about, you've got a sad, sad, life.
2. If you'd really sue over this, you're life is sadder than in point one.

Get over yourself, get on with your life.
