Why would that have been a mistake? Common sense would dictate that if a woman is married she is off limits. That would be true for those who believe in god and those who do not. And God does not make mistakes.

No, He did not make a mistake about calling adultery a sin. Hurt people hurt people. There is a lot of recorded incidents of adultery in the Bible...but that does not make it acceptable behavior. God hates sin because it separates our hearts from God's will and purpose for us.

CalebsMom is right. God doesn't make mistakes.
A Because adultery is against chastity.
In adultery, a married person has sexual relations with another, married or not, who is not his/her spouse. Only marriage authorises this relationship between two persons of different sex. Thus adultery violates chastity which is obligatory outside marriage.
B Because adultery is an injustice to the faithful spouse.
By adultery, a married person has sexual relations with another, married or not, who is not his/her spouse but through marriage, the spouses mutually give themselves to each other, exclusively and perpetually. Thus adultery is unjust toward the faithful spouse because it gives to another that which he (or she) alone has the exclusive right to receive.
C Because adultery is an injustice to the legitimate children.
Through adultery, one risks having illegitimate children or provoking a divorce, if the adultery becomes known. The existence of illegitimate children or the possibility of a divorce jeopardises the care that the parents should give to their legitimate children. Thus, adultery is unjust to the legitimate children because it violates their well-being.

Given that God formed the Ten Commandments for our protection, to warn us away from behaviors that would be destructive to ourselves and to others; and given the suffering, ruined relationships, damaged lives, and destroyed families that have resulted from adultery, it looks to me like God got it right.

Let's see, adultery can bring disease, divorce, heartache, your children being raised by another adult other then you and so many other horrible things.
I think it is a sin cause God loves us so much that He wants to protect us from our own stupidity.

Yes, but luckily the legal system got it right. Like most of the 10 Commandments, it's not against any law (as long as she's over 18).

I don't think so. You can only be adulterous if you've already made a commitment to somebody (marriage). If you've lied before God and your spouse, you're sinning. Not sure it should be considered a 'crime' though.

God doesn't make mistakes...His ways are not our ways and they are perfect.
Wedding vows - even said by non-believers - are just that - vows of faithfulness to each other.

Make sence. It is also about trust and loyalty. If you would sleep with another how could I trust you.
