My cat is declawed. She has been since she was a kitten. I know it sounds mean to get a cat declawed, but it was the only way my parents would let me keep her.. But anyways, she really wants to go outside. We have been letting her go out for a couple weeks. She comes back in every once in a while but it scares me because without claw's how could she defend herself, say if there was a dog or somethig? What should i do? should i keep letting her out??

Don't let any housecat (declawed or not) outside under any circumstances unless she is safely in your arms or in some kind of fenced shelter. Busy roads, wild animals, and posionous plants are all dangers to kitties in the outdorr world, not to mention they often bring back fleas and other unwanted parasites from being outside. We had an indoor/outdoor cat, claws and all, but he was no match for the driver who ran him over on the road near our house. Don't learn this lesson the hard way and keep your kitty inside!

THere are many things that can hurt a cat. an outdoor cats life expectncy is like 3 yrs. An indoor is something like 15-20 yrs. Saying this, with or without claws cats fair better inside. In adition to this you have taken away her best line of defense. Also, Is she fixed. If not you may end up w. a new litter of kittens by letting her out. she could be wanting out because she is in heat and is looking for a mate

Since she has no claws, you have to look out for her now. I think its cruel to keep any animal trapped inside, but if she can't defend herself then I guess you don't have much choice. I have a blind cat (with claws, but still handicapped) who loves to be outside- but the only way we can let him out is if he's on a leash. Maybe that's a good solution- that, or fencing in your yard so you can keep a constant eye on kitty while she's outside. OR, go out with her and stay outside while she's there. I know how much they love the outdoors, so I hope you can think of something!

Guess what? She can still defend herself I promise. I also have a cat that is de-clawed and neutered. He still wanted to go outside and he stays outside for some period of time. He has never came back with a scratch or anything. When he is inside he likes to play rough with my other cat that has claws on the front. Well he kicks her *** he uses his back claws as a defense. Just because they don't have their claws doesn't mean they don't have ways to defend themselves. Granted we have tried to keep him inside because there is a risk that he won't be able to climb a tree and stuff like that but so far he is doing good. It's always best to keep them inside but some cats are just not going to want to stay inside.

I am not sure...maybe you should be with your cat when your cat strolls out? coz there's no guarantee she won't met some nasty dogs, or even some mentally sick human that wants to torture her, and she can't even defend herself!

Try to fix a routine by letting your cat out (it need not be very long hours, just half an hour will do your cat some gd), and keep an eye on her, that's what a responsible owner should do.

don't take chances, dangers are lurking everywhere, even places who seems to be the safest neighbourhood.

It really isn't safe. Not only dangers of being attack but there are many disease cats can get from being outside, and not to mention fleas and ticks could get on the cat. Once you let a cat out for so long it's hard for you to sudden;y stop letting her out. So i would recommend keeping her inside from now on.

I have an indoor outdoor cat that will be 12yrs in May......... I wish that I had never let her out B/C I am scared of what might happen to her. We live near a semi busy road and really busy during school days........ we live about a block away from the school........ but anyways DON'T let your cat outside there are LOTS of things that could hurt and even kill her..... You could take her on cat walks and even a fence with a top over it....... but please don't let her out.

I really wouldn't. You can get a halter and a leash and take her out for airings regularly.

You put the halter on first in the house and let her get used to having it on. She will lie down and not move when you first put it on. Just let her wear it when you are around for a few days and when she is moving around in it you can attach the leash and go outside with her. She must NOT be tied outside with the leash.

Be sure to wrap the leash securely around your wrist - if she gets spooked by something she can get away from you.

Good luck with it. I have taken three of my young cats (around six months) out on leashes so they could be familiar with the territory around their home.

Keep her inside. Mine was outside when she was little (before I got her) but now she's used to staying in. She even sits by the open door but doesn't go out. She's perfectly happy sitting in the window sill watching the birds and leaves and smelling the fresh air. And she's safe.

Honestly, I don't know why you let your kitty out in the first place, beside all of the problems already stated, it's just plain mean to do that! Your precious ball of fluff could, like, get run over, or stolen, dude!
