I have been taking effexor for over a yer now. I finially asked about generics and they gave me Venlafaxine, but instead of taking it once a day I have to take it twice a day. It is a 75 mg. tablet.

no longer yet, i'm afraid. Drug companies carry patents that are solid for 12 years, so Effexor XR has a number of years to pass formerly the patent expires and a typical could be positioned on the industry.

NO, my drug plan will only pay for the name brands when there is no generic one available. I have been on this for quite some time and there is no generic one yet.

Hi Sarah,

It does indeed now come in generic doses. See article:

http://www.medicinenet.com/venlafaxine/article.htm

If you go to http://www.qualitygenerics.com/effexor.shtml?ref=alex2

You'll see that the generics are somewhat cheaper than the name brand. I'm sure if you have insurance, it's a much better deal.
