I have seen the loveliest squire pull a spear from his own body to defend a dying horse and I've seen knights run in fear at the first sign of battle, noblility is not a birth right, it's defense by over action

It's the LOWLIEST squire...This quote means that title by birth doesn't insure character or other quailities like courage, loyalty, honesty and so on. A person from the humblest origins can be more noble than any nobility.

One can be a Squire, usually a fruity kinda fella, and still do good for goodness sake. While a Knight/Warrior can run from a battle, its called human nature. Some react to situations by themselves, and not becuase of thier position or title.

I dont' understand it either,,for in my eyes it is not a nobel thing to run in fear at the first sign of battle,,I also don't understand how pulling a spear from 'ones' side can possibly defend a dying horse. sorry,,,maybe your author is a druggie or something,,,

I think it means that no person is born noble or coragious but corage means to out others before ur self and protect those who r weaker then u. But that's my guess.
