He's not on any meds, stress could def be a factor here as he usually gets them after a stint on nightshift and he has noticed them after certain foods, ie crisps, fresh oj etc. They are massive and quite often at the back of his throat...really debilitating.

They tend to be hereditary, but some new evidence is linking them to the Herpes virus (the one that causes cold sores) .

Stress is a major factor, they tend to come on when people are run down or tired,

They can indicate a deficiency in the B group vitamins, so it is worth taking a good multivitamin like Multibionta.

Acidic foods and trauma from cheek biting, toothbrushing etc can kick them off.

You can be prescribed Adcortyl in Orabase by your Dentist (although it tastes awful, and won't be much use at the back of the throat)

There is also a mouthwash and gel available in the UK called Gengigel, you should be able to get it at Boots or other larger pharmacies, this is very good for releiving ulcers, as is a mouth gel called Aloclair, again from pharmacies.

One more natural remedy is Bee Propolis tincture available from health food shops which you apply on the ulcer, some people swear by this. Unfortunately nothing makes ulcers go any faster thay just have to run their course and should take around 4-5 days to clear completely.

Any ulcer that is there for more than 2 weeks needs to be examined by a Dentist, to rule out anything untoward.

If the ulcers are very recurrent, you should ask your GP to do a blood test as occasionally they can be a sign of an underlying illnesss or deficiency.

Hope this helps

They are called apthous ulcers or Major RAU ,but no good explanation exists for causing them . Stress seems to be a precipitating factor in some patients ,particularly emotional . Other factors are trauma ,nutritional deficiencies (Vitamin and mineral ),food allergies (dairy products ),genetics. Treatment is varied . Mouthwash regularly used may help prevent them and two oral pastes are of use in speeding up healing . Orabase and Apthasol (both prescription ) can reduce symptoms .

Well, they're called canker sores and they are highly hereditary. Stress is a big factor also. Tell him I know how he feels. I get them a lot too. Especially if I drink OJ or any type of juice. I used to drink Vodka/Cranberry every time I went out and the next morning, I'd have a canker sore! All that acid causes them. My grandmother and mother used to get them down in their throats sometimes....ouch! My mom had to put lidocane down there to help with the pain and even eat sometimes! I used it as well! He can get a bottle from the doc. Lay off the acidic drinks/juices....that will help him tremendously!

Herpes virus is the most common cause of mouth ulcers. There is also a condition called oral apthous ulcers, which may have an auto-immune component.
Chemotherapy causes stomatitis, which can also cause mouth ulcers. Perhaps your husband needs to see an ear-nose-throat specialist if the ulcers are especially bothersome or painful.

Stress is a major factor in getting Ulcers, also a lack of Vitamin C
So, force feed him pure Orange Juice and tell him to put his feet up in front of the TV!

stomach acidity is the foundation of it all, get rid of it by drinking lots of water and orange juice diluted with 2 parts water and 1 part juice.2 or 3 times a day and hopefully it will reduce acidity in stomach and stop bad breath, stinky sweat and constipation and ulcers. look at the foundation of it and treat that rather than just on the surface by applying gel or whatever.believe me, tell him to try this and drink lots of water (8 glasses or more if possible) and if on medication then u need the minimum 8 glasses.

Stress is a major factor as you've mentined. Nobody knows what causes them, but to help combat them he can avoid all the spicy foods that that help bring them on and take vitamin B complex regularly.

If i bit my lip i know i will definately get an ulcer. I dont know why it is but they are hereditary as well. My nan used to suffer pretty badly and rinsing your mouth out with warm salty water is the best way for them to heal. Maybe he bites the inside of his mouth when he sleeps?
