My ideal soul food dinner would be:

Either fried catfish or a big slice of ham
Red Beans and Rice
Collard Greens
Corn Bread with real sweet-cream butter

Drink:
Home-made Southern Style sweet iced tea

Dessert:
Peach or apple cobbler

Can I come over for dinner when you make this?

I have a dessert that is so simple and so good!!

Monkey Bread (I know dumb name -but trust me)

2 packages of refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1 1/2 sticks of real butter
3/4 cups of brown sugar
1/2 pancake syrup (butter flavored is extra good!)

Cinammon and sugar mixture (I use 1 cup of sugar and 1 TBSP of cinammon)

**Cut each biscuit in quarters, roll in the cinammon and sugar mixutre and put them in a greased cake pan and set aside.

Mix the butter, pancake syrup, and brown sugar together and heat on stove top until melted (I also put a splash of vanilla in this also). When this is all melted together pour on top of biscuits and bake them at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour.

Trust me between the two of you, you'll eat the whole pan!!

buy 2 ham hocks 1 for a pot of blackeyed peas and onions hot sauce and 1 for some collard and mustard greens mixed they are in season now...then i would fry a nice smoked ham steak as everyone does the chicken thing.....and make from the ham drippings some red eye gravy of course you need a pan of drop buiscuts....and sweet potatoes candied and marshmellow on top...and for desert....a nice piece of pecan pie ...you can buy premade at market.......and drinks are your own choosing... and if you want appetizers fry some breaded chicken gizzards and serve with hotsauce and melted butter(mixed)
