Yes, it rains from November to March here..120 inches per year..so I walk dogs every day and every night..I walk mostly in a well lighted area...I use a good flashlight when it is too dark..
It is nice to walk near a business with security guards..They usually have helpful night lighting, as well..
Wear good walking shoes, to help you keep balance over rough terrain, as you can't see well enough to avoid pot holes, etc..

I keep towels at the door to dry off the dogs..and my small one wears rain gear..(Cuz I don't want her in my bed all wet.)..

I walk my dogs whatever the weather conditions but as I am walking them alone, I tend to adjust my winter walking times. My dogs have their usual morning hour and a quarter, then they get another hour and and a half at around 3.30 and then a final half hour street walk on the lead when it is dark. My dogs are still content and exercised and I am safer. I guess if I did have company and took a walk in the countryside in the dark I would have to take some sort of torch with me to see where I was going. I also have collars that light up so I can see where my dogs are!!

If you have to walk your dog in the wet and dark, take a torch and some sturdy walking boots. Might be an idea to take someone along with you too.

Otherwise, if possible, give the dog a longer walk whilst it is light, then just a short walk around your estate later.

Actually, it is the other way around. My dog takes me for a walk, she does not mind getting wet and she is not cold, because she has a fantastic thick warm fur coat. If I wore a fur coat I would be stoned to death by the `animal rights`brigade. So, I am cold and wet. I don`t need a torch, because she can see in the dark, but even if she could not,she can sniff her way home.Don`t worry I am quite safe with her.

Yes we walk our dog in the winter when its wet and dark and she has one of those reflective flashing collars that you can buy at Pets at Home for about £3, you can see where you dog is and cars can see them too, we also carry a torch too as it is very dark were we take our dog at nights.

I WALK my dogs 4 times a day for 10-15 mins each walk on top of play time in the yard and so forth. There health is just as important as mine.
When walking them at night, I keep them on leashes and bring a flashlight.
If the weather is bad, the walk may be more like 5-10 mins and before I take them out I get a few towels out and put them at my front door, so once we get back I can dry them immediately.

Me and my husband take our 2 dogs for their morning walk in the dark at the moment we go complete with torch, I take them out for about an hour in the late/ish afternoon before it gets dark again, then when I am cooking supper my hubby takes them out again in the dark, all 3 walks are off lead on the common, in between times they have full access to a very large grassed garden. They would go out for longer in the afternoon but they are both still quite young!

I walk my dog at 6:30am in the morning in the UK. I take him down a lane which is next to houses. There are lights still on outside though from the houses, but I think i'll need a torch (americans 'flashlight') soon.

I walk my dog 5 miles every day come what may. I take a torch and we live on the Lincolnshire marshes and seldom see anybody else. My dog is never on a lead because he instantly obeys me and there are no roads. If a dog owner can't put him first they shouldn't have a dog.

it depends on how well you know the area and how comfortable you are in the dark. Just always be on your guard as there are a lot of animals and things out in the country that the dog might want to chase so be aware they may try totake off any time. when I lived in the country it always depended on how bright the moon was. If it was cloud covored I would take a flashlight. otherwise it seemed like the flashlight lit a sm area and the bigger area was harder to see. It seemed like the moon was over all the best light. you just could not always depend on it.
