The burqa and female genital mutilation aren't Islamic teachings and I don't think any women's group supports these practices! These practises are done only in certain countries, female gential mutilation is done also by Christians in the affected countries!! It is done due to regional traditions and you can fight these bad practices and traditions without attacking Islam.
When you speak of women's liberal groups I think you mean people who defend religious freedom of Muslims, this does not include these practices!
Female genital mutilation is done in Sudan, Egypt and other African countries and also in Yemen I think. Muslims in other parts of world don't know what that is or of they know they say it is a sin because it is not allowed to change the body as God created it, it is not even allowed to make a tatoo in Islam and it is considered a big sin to do any plastic surgery! The male circumcision is the only exception from this.

Women's "(liberal) groups," as you describe them, are at the forefront of the battle against BOTH of those practices. They are generally against ANY religious practice that demeans or oppresses women - including the "Christian" idea that women should be subservient to men.
I imagine you're trying to equate a call for religious tolerance with approval for barbaric practices. That is patent nonsense, and they make it very loud and clear..

First, I'm not part of any women's liberal groups, don't have to be, second, I wouldn't support islam in any way, shape, or form.
