Yes, God did not threaten people to believe Him. But God sent message of what to be feared after. Its everyone's own choice.

When Christians talk about their "fear of God", they do not mean the same kind of fear that keeps children from feeling safe in the dark. Nor do they mean the kind of fear a man would feel if he were in a cage with a hungry tiger. The kind of fear they mean, is closest to what you would feel if I told you that a great spirit were in the room with us and you believed it. This is a paraphrase of a passage from C.S. Lewis's "Problem of Pain".
Knowing that you are in the presence of something larger and infinitely more powerful than you, but not against you, will bring this kind of fear.

Yes, God wants us to fear him , it shows that you acknowledge His Might and power.....and you can love Him thru it all. Doesn't a child fear its father's anger, but still loves him enough to stay there and accept it? The anger that causes the fear is not usually a punch in the mouth, but a sign that there is a better way to do things. So fear God, but don't live in fear......he still loves and forgives you. Just like my dad

But it's obvious that He does want us to fear him because the Bible says so. However, the kind of fear that this refers to is AWE. Not that we are to be afraid of God but that we reverence Him with AWE because of His might and power. And when we realize that nothing is impossible with God, we realize that He has all power and that He is a just God, the one true God, and it's only by His grace that we live. That gives us AWE..or fear...to worship Him, to know that if we do not give Him all reverence, and acknowledge His greatness, we have a future to look to with great fear!

If you were telling your small child to stay out of the street when a car was coming would you want him to fear you so he would listen to you?

he wants our reverence not fear.
of course it is normal to have a fear of death,so that is why people run to Jesus at first.
After you build a relationship with him,and he is a part of your life, you learn to not fear him but have reverence for him.
We fear the unknown, that is why we fear Jesus at first!
After you get to know him,you can't live without him!
God Bless

I don't either. He is our Father, first and foremost. He loves us and wants what is best for us. He wants us to come to him not run from him. Fear is left for the unkown. We have to "know" God to recieve eternal life.

...then why did He flood the Earth and kill everyone? That's not a good way to make people not fear Him.
