You can bathe him outdoors with the water from the hose, but make sure you dry him off quickly and get him back inside with a warm blanket afterwards to keep him from getting cold.

You can also buy a hose fixture that fits on the hot/cold faucets your washing machine is hooked up to so you can give the dog a bath with warm water instead of cold. You may be able to find these fixtures through www.drsfostersmith.com

At our shelter, we actually give the larger dogs a bath in the shower (indoors).

No, he should not catch a cold. But if it is cold outside, give him a bath inside if at all possible.

I use to have a German Shepherd. She loved the water, but not soapy water. Outside was easier to do for bath. Keep in mind, some of the soap may be more difficult to rinse out with cold water. You may want to take some warm water out there or hot water and test it before pouring it on him.

I know some people use the car wash thingies -- that might be a bit much.

I would not give the German Sheperd a bath outside unless it is warm enough out for you to be outside getting a bath too (because inevitably that will happen if you give him a bath). He will probably go into shock if its too cold. Plus a bath should be as pleasant an experience it can be. Just let the dog take a bath in the tub. Wash it out afterwards. Everyone will be happy.

you're probably fine if you do it in the sun if it's cool. Right now, the water is still warm coming out of the hose because it's not really winter yet.
After his bath, use several towels and dry him good. I am not sure of your dog, but if he has a thick coat, the fine fur next to the skin might still be damp and it takes a while to dry. You can use a hairdryer as long as you keep it at a cool setting and dont get too close.

When I had a German Shepard we gave her a bath outside with the hose and he didn't catch cold but maybe try using the hair dryer when to dry him. Or put dry towels in the dryer to make them hot then use those towels to dry him off. (But use alot because he is a big dog)But if it is cold do not do it outside if it hot go have a ball washing her!

No dont do it. I have a real german shoperd and its black. We give it bath only with hot water. We tryed to give it with cold one out side even when its hot outside. The dog alwayis gets sick.. We paid too much money for bills already because she was getting sick everytime.

it depends on where you live too, obviously if you live in the warmer states it wouldnt make a difference but if the climate is cold your dog will be cold. animals take longer to get dry so be careful, its not all that necessary to bath the dog during the winter as it is in the summer. see if you cant get a dry shampoo at the vets to refresh your pet without having to get him wet and cold

In the summer...that is the only place my dogs get a bath...I have brittanys and one German Shepard....THey get baths outside in the summer....they love the hose.....and it makes cleanup a lot easier....I have a harder time getting my GSD to get into the tub that to sit still outside while washing him off.....If its cooler out...you will probly get sick before he does, because you will get just as wet as he will.
