My son is 4 years old. I don't have a problem getting him to brush his teeth....but he really doesn't like the taste of toothpaste. I've tried every kind out there and nothing seems to work. Sometimes I struggle with him and make him use the toothpaste...other times it's just not worth the battle. Is is really necessary for a little one to use toothpaste as long as they are brushing(well, I'm brushing)his teeth OK without it? Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get him to like the taste better?

I do buy him the kids toothpaste..he doesn't like any of it. I've tried all flavors..he just doesn't care for it..He'll rinse it off of his brush if I don't watch him.

Try a toothpaste with a flavor other than mint or other essential oil flavoring -they can be too intense for toddlers . Colgate had a vanilla flavor and I think several "kiddie' toothpastes have fruit flavoring . Some benefit is derived from the fluoride in tooth pastes ,but you can use a moistened tooth brush to get the job done just as well .

I have a 5 month old son, he has 6 teeth now and we just recently had his first dental visit. Our dentist advises that as long as there is Floride in your water and there is frequent brushing(with good technique) Then young teeth are fine without a toothpaste. I have used a split pea size amount of Gerber Grins and Giggles toothpaste on my little one so he gets the idea of brushing with paste, because "thats what Mommy does". However, as long as you are brushing away the bacteria, paste is not needed.

Buy the kids kinds of toothpaste, they don't taste as bad. And kids still need toothpaste, just a smaller (pea-sized) amount.

Have you tried using fruity toothpaste?
They do some especially for kids, and even Aquafresh do one for adults!
Good Luck

They make all kinds of baby toothpaste that doesn't taste like mint. Kids don't like all mint, & they taste like fruits & bubble gum.

Do not let him swallow the toothpaste as floride is poisonous.
