Yes, in a way water helps you loose weight. its not that water has magical calorie burning properties or anything though. Water combats weight gain on three fronts: first, it creates a sense of fullness that will help keep you away from the cupboard. Second, it (hopefully) takes the place of drinks like Coke that contain a lot of sugar. Lastly, water helps keep our bodily systems running smoothly which is indirectly connected to weight loss. Water to humans is like oil to a car. With out the oil the car would not operate smoothly and components of the engine would start to fail. Just like the oil, water helps keep our bodies in working condition so that all our body's component can work more efficiently.

Drinking water has many benefits - from keeping the body well hydrated, to assist in eliminating toxins and to assist in weight loss. The reason for the latter is that drinking a glass of water (sometimes flavored with fresh mint, lemon, lime, ginger, etc.) makes your brain perceive that your stomach is filled up for the moment - and that "turns off" your "appestat." Of course you can overdo drinking water just as you can overdo most anything. The usual "8 glasses of water a day" seems to be the best guideline, although some diet experts just say to start with that amount until you have developed the habit of staying hydrated and then just let your sense of thirst guide you. I'd suggest that you keep a log of your water intake daily...even after you feel you've begun to recognize when you should be drinking another glass of water. Try to keep your fluid intake to water only as much as is possible so you don't have to have your fluids filtered by the kidneys.

Drinking water is good because it can help fill you up and make you less hungry. Also, water is a no calorie drink, as opposed to soda and stuff, which all contain sugar.

The recommended amout for losing weight is to take your weight and take that number and divide it in half and that is the number of ounces you should drink.
Example: If you weigh 200 pounds, you should drink 100 ounces or about 3 liters.
If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.
