Very hard to explain but I will give it a go.......
Take a section of hair at the top of the head and divide it into three. Take left section over the middle, then right over the middle just like a normal plait. Then add a section of free hair on the left to the left part of plait (use a comb to get it smooth) and take over the middle. Add a section of free hair on the right to the right part of plait (again use a comb) and take over middle section. Continue with left as before and then right and so on until all of the hair is incorporated into plait then just continue to plait as normal until you reach the bottom. Secure with a band.
Hope this makes sense!
Practice on a willing child or a Girl's World doll or similar.

Yeah, its usually done with three pieces, but thats quite hard to do on your own head.
Heres a simpler way !
1) Start by grabbing a piece od hair where ever you want the plait to start.
2) split the little pony into two pieces
3) hold the two pieces in the same hand keeping them seperate
4) gather up more hair from the free handed side
5) pass the gathered hair to the other side and add it to the half a pony
6) grab that with the other hand pass both pieces of hairto the other hand
7) then drop a bit of the other side and pick it up again with more hair, pass it to the other hand
8) keep doing this til you get to the nape of the neck
9) then carry on passing a bit from one side, grabbing it with the other hand.
Got headache after trying to put that into words ! Hope it helps : )

get a section starting from the crown of the head pull it backwards so it makes a triangle pattern cross them over and slowly add a small even section of hair to that, keep crossing it over like a normal plait but adding these small sections in and before you know it you have reached the bottom of the head, simply tie the hair band in and you have a french plait (just remember practise makes perfect) good luck hope this helps.

that's kind of hard to answer on the internet. you should try to search it on google or something, and look at some pictures online or in magazines to help you
i'm sure there are also websites that actually give you instructions on how to plait your hair
