Without a doubt the mighty Arkle.
There's a reason why they had to develop two handicapping systems in the mid-1960s - one for races with Arkle in and one for races without. He was so vastly superior to anything else at the time.

Initially you would have to say Arkle. However what Best Mate achieved is surely on a par, given the amount of horses in training now compared to in Arkle's era.
I'd stick my neck out and say Best Mate - he was a true champion who luckily stayed sound and rattled up a hat-trick of Cheltenham Gold Cups.

charlie swan from Tipperary in Ireland he has records that i don't think will ever be surpassed in our lifetime.The guy even won the gold cup 3 times in a row with a horse called istabraic he would have done 4 only the horse got injured

I have seen all the best racehorses in the last 50 years. Arkle is head and shoulders above anyone else. This is a ridiculous argument. There is NO comparison!
