These people went to the home of theirchildrens killer and offered their condolences to his wife and children. Now they have asked the town to share their collections of money with this man's children.I am always ranting about how religion can be this and that ,but these humble people have shown the world in this instance what true religion should be about.

Every time I hear another instance on television illustrating the tremendous capacity of the Amish for love and forgiveness, it brings tears to my eyes. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to do all that they have - invite the widow of that murdering bastard to my child's funeral, and then attend his funeral to offer condolences and support to his family. For all the fun that has been poked at them through the years, and the way people have looked down their noses at them for the lifestyle choice they have made, I think they really have figured it out. What a shining example of how a person's faith can sustain them through the most horrific of circumstances. It certainly gives us all something to think about, and something to strive for.

I am very impressed with how the Amish handled themselves. While this was a tragedy, I believe that God can use it for good. Religion isn't about structures and legalism. It's about loving your neighbor as yourself and loving the Lord your God! We (people in general) seem to have lost the ability to forgive. It's so sad that most people hang out to their rights and what they feel that they deserve. No one can be humble, giving, forgiving, etc. anymore. No wonder there is so much evil prevalent in this world!

I grieve for the Amish, but rejoice in the truth that they have reminded us of.

Great question!!

I grew up in a community that had many Amish, Mennonite, and Old Order German Baptists. I went to school with their children, I visited their homes, and sometimes we went to one of their funerals. So I was not surprised by the way they conducted themselves after this senseless killing. They don't tend to talk about their faith but you see it in their actions. They were always good neighbors. And now in the midst of their grief in this Pennsylvania community, they are living their faith in front of the nation by forgiving the killer and reaching out to help his wife and children. As always I am impressed with their grace and humbleness in a world that has too little of each.

It truly was an eye-opener for the selfless way of life. We live only 45 minutes from where the incident happened. The Amish really are a loving people who truly believe in unconditional forgiveness.

Couldn't be more so. The world has a lot to learn from those people. I am not religious by any means, but I have the utmost respect for those people and the way they live their modest, meager lives when the rest of the world is indulging in so much...well, indulgence.

I'm so taken aback by it all. It's so beautiful. In a world where people kill out of retaliation and conflicts persist because "he started it" we have a lot to learn from the Amish.

Yeah, absolutely. They responded a lot better than I would have. Sometimes the rest of society pokes fun at their lifestyle, but maybe they're on to something that the rest of us are missing.

Yes, I was very, very impressed. They are a better people than most would be. Than I could be. Those are what you call true followers of God.
