Tea contains anti-oxidants and is healthy. It also does contain some caffeine not not as much like coffee. Herbal teas which do not contain tea leaves do not contain caffeine. Research suggests that the consumption of antioxidant-rich foods reduces damage to cells and biochemicals from free radicals. This may slow down, prevent, or even reverse certain diseases that result from cellular damage, and maybe even slow down the natural aging process. The free-radical theory of aging is the substantiation to this.

Actually, black teas do contain the same anti-oxidants etc. The only difference between green and black tea is that black tea is fermented. Green tea is probably healthier than black tea, but whether it's loose or in a tea-bag makes NO difference whatsoever. Incidentally, did you know that gargling with green tea (cold of course) is supposed to help ward off a cold? Apparently that's what some people do in Japan, and they swear by it!

I would agree with others comments on the antioxidants, however it's easy to become addicted to the caffeine in tea. I know many middle aged people who have to have a cup of tea when they wake up, get in from work, sit down to watch TV etc.

Unfortunately, there is such a thing as 'too much of a good thing'. It's true that herbal teas don't contain caffeine, but for people addicted to caffeinated tea, it's a stimulant. It can increase the heart rate and raise (not lower) blood pressure levels.

I'm sure tea's antioxidant effects are healthy, but I would recommend decaffeinated or herbal teas if you want to drink them for their health benefits.

There are however times when tea consumption should be limited:

* If someone is pregnant or is planning to become pregnant.
* If someone is breast-feeding.
* If someone has insomnia (too much green tea can cause insomnia because of its caffeine contents).
* If someone is anemic (the antioxidant properties of tea can reduce an individual's ability to absorb iron).

Yes I believe tea is a healthy drink. All teas have recognizable benefits, green teas are high in anti oxidants, black teas contain fluorides.

I have 2 cups of green tea every single day, I think it helps flush toxins from your system and it does seem to help more when your on a health kick and wanting to lose a bit of weight too.
