i think men lie a little for both reasons :) and then some... people in general lie, whether a little white lie or something bigger, but many do it because they think they'll get away with something, or because truth hurts sometimes... i've done my share of lying, and find each time, i'm only hurting myself and i'm the one who has to live with not only the guilt of lying but what i had to lie about.
words to live by? don't do anything you feel you need to lie about, chances are, it's not worth it in the end...

Women lie just as much as men do, so why would you ask a stupid question like why do men lie? Not all men lie and not all women lie but most of both sexes do.

Well I am a 23 year old guy and I'm in the Army and I think I can help you out. We don't lie to look good and we dont do it intentionally to look "stupid" as you put it. Its becuase we are either insecure or embarassed about something and do not want our lady counter part to know about. So actually in a guy way its sweet -- we do it for you ladies. So you dont know something bad about us. Hope that helps ;).

Men often lie to get sex. And will tell a woman anything she wants to hear. And many women are stupid enough to believe these thoughtless assholes.

THIS IS WHY MEN LIE :
REASONS:
1.) They dont want to hurt they one they love
2.) whatever it is is on a need to know basis
3.) Makes her happy (without hurting her feelings)
4.) To avoid doing something (LAZY)
5.) This is true for some people not all ..... getting in bed
