20/20 in both eyes
mild astigmatism

Are they just trying to get me to purchase glasses?

Sounds like the astigmatism is the problem. I assume you are 20/20 in *both* yes - right?

Astigmatism is the reason! Astigmatism is a visual defect in which the unequal curvature of one or more refractive surfaces of the eye, usually the cornea, prevents light rays from focusing clearly at one point on the retina, resulting in blurred vision (dictionary). You probably can't wear contacts either. I have the same problem. It's not a major issue, just troublesome.

An eye chart is one thing and reading and using eyes is different. My son had 20/20 vision and he turned out to have keratoconus.
