It's NOT about a "war on terror" or "fighting for freedoms". It's REALLY all about THIS!...

I don't believe there was ever much of a chance for an American "win" since the stated motives and goals of this "war" were always foggy and ever changing. Most now know Saddam had no link to 9/11, Al Qaeda, or Osama. There were no WMDs, uranium, or aluminum deals. If "freedom and democracy" could be spread by people blowing each other up we'd be doing OK, but they can't so we aren't. My own belief is that this (illegitimate) administration was determined before 9/11 to galvanize the Muslim world against the U.S. as a substitute for the U.S.S.R. and justify our astronomically high defense budget, among other things. Halliburton, Exxon-Mobile and the Pentagon might be winning this "war", but the rest of us are paying the price. "War on Terror"? These guys will be on the gravy train for life.

Well the thing is that the US citizens only see what the news wants you to see, and that is the one big thing that has happened that day. (I.E. 5 soldiers have died today in this one event.) But what they are not telling you is that the one thing is just one of many events that happened over there. This is the facts at a minimum there and 150 different types of attacks over there every day. Now through the months of May - July that number of attacks almost doubles to almost 300 attacks a day.((I.E. small arms fire, IED, VBIED, suicide bombers, grenades thrown, attempted asassinations, and on and on and on.)) MUST BE THE HEAT OF THOSE MONTHS!!! But the war goes on evey day, and the news has played the fight off because it is the same thing every day over there, fighting. The soldiers are still busting doors down and taking people out that are leaders of the terrorists. But the news is not going to tell you that because it is happening all the time and another thing the news doesnt get to hear about the raids and the bust down doors, until after the matter. SECURITY REASONS Thr news dosent have time to tell people every thing that happens over there every day, so they focus on the main event of the day and most of the time it is the losses that the military suffers. But there is a battle and it is going to be won. E-5/SGT

Yes, we are in a war. You cannot and should not define it by what you see and hear on television or radio. It is an unfortunate fact that war costs lives. It's frustrating and painful to us all. It's difficult to believe that the cause is worth it when you see it politicized on the nightly news. Apparently our military men believe in it because many of them are signing up for second and third tours. They are the ones who really know what the war is all about. Maybe you should ask them.

Fighting a war on terror is unique and different from any other. The enemy is not as clearly defined as in other wars. That being said, I think one of the biggest problems is that we have a lunatic like Rumsfeld who is stripping more and more of the decision making from the men in the field and leaving it up to paper chasers sitting in the Pentagon who are very far removed from the filed of battle. And yet Bush says he trust the word of his commanders in the field? It just doesn't make sense. This is just leading to more ineptness and chaos, and it shows.

We're not, but whats to win, anyhow? Its an abysmal tragedy all around, while Dubya just wiggles his fingers at us and smirks. Just like his lies, the bodies and the costs continue to pile up, faster and faster. With so much absolute disregard for human life coming from the top ( so to speak), and glorified by the media, why are we in the US in the dark about what's inspiring the current rash of school shootings?

You're right. The war is over. WE WON. It's now an occupation, and the vast majority of the Iraqi people do not want us there. So we should leave. Bush says, "As they stand up, we'll stand down", but in fact, they won't stand up UNTIL we stand down, and force them to take responsibility for themselves. We cannot bring peace to Iraq.

We're trying to play referee to the Sunni's & Shiites in Iraq. Our military is losing people almost on a daily basis now, it's creating more hate, more violence, more terrorists and all because the President refuses to admit he was wrong. It's sickening. I'm ex-military and I feel for those people who are loosing their lives both military and civilian.

the war is over, (we won) and all our troops (that are still alive) are coming home. Which means that we have to find women and jobs for all of them(darn it, I wish I'd have thought this through a little better)

no, we are occupying, and the violence is instigated and kept up by US psy-ops as an excuse to stay while a massive nato military buildup is presently underway in both the mediterranean and persion gulf theatres preparing for the iranian/syrian phase of the operation...
