Here's the deal...I'm a single mom and I work full time. I know that I have let things get out of control with my weight and now I'm ready to change. I've been able to lose weight pretty easily in the past, but I have a hard time sticking to anything for a long period of time. I really want to make a lifestyle change and not just get a quick weight loss. My main downfall seems to be drinking pop. I can cut that out pretty easily to start with, but it always creeps back. I guess I'm just wanting some suggestions on what other busy moms have done to lose the weight and keep it off. As of now, I'm counting calories, drinking lots more water and I'm getting back on the treadmill tonight!! Any suggestions on how to make this change stick this time? Thanks so much for your help.....

Thanks so much for all the great answers!!I would love to go to Weight Watchers and I have in the past...unfortuntaley, now that I am a single mom, I can't afford it :-( If I had the extra 15 or so bucks a week..I would be there in a heartlbeat. I've talked to my mom though and we're going to go in on this together and be accountable to each other.

Join a support organization such as weight watchers and attend the weekly meeting. Give you moral support plus the incentive of having to weigh in each week. They will also help with tips on what foods to eat and how much to eat. WW allows you to cook your own food, go out to eat, whatever, but they teach you also amounts o eat. If attending meeting is out of the question, start a group at work or circle of friends. Set up rules, weight in once a week or whatever, every one pays so much a week or however you set it up. At the end of "x" months the one with the most loss wins the pot, and a new pot is started. If some one in your group is willing and able instead of total weight, go by total body fat lost as a twist as that will give everyone a more equal playing field.

Drinking water is good. And moderation IS key but when you have a craving for something like chocolate or cake or whatever it is EAT IT, if you don't, when you do get a chance to eat it you will eat way more that you should have. Try getting you child involved with you exercise. You can actually use a child as an exercise. You are getting your cardio and having fun with your child so it works out for everyone

Burn more calories than you take in. Especially carbohydrates, that's what will become fat if you dont burn that energy. Therefore, eat less potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, etc. Keep an eye on what you eat and say no to anything high in carbs.
When your body has no carbs left in your body to use for energy, it begins to burn fat. The best time to exercise for weight loss is before breakfast. You'll have no carbs left from the day before and the fat will burn right off.

You need to exercise daily, at least 30 minutes a day, and you have to take in less calories. Try not to eat so many sugars, cheeses and avoid anything with a lot of saturated fat.
