I was thinking of the baby einstein dvds. But I already have a set, and I can just lend it to them. Are there other nice educational dvds? Or educational toys for that age range? Thanks.

The leapfrog toys are great. My cousins (they're 6 and 9) have a leapster they enjoy using and is educational...The leapfrog line of educational toys has some very good toys...also, once he gets older, I really recommend Reader Rabbit software for the computer. I remember learning a lot from it when I was little.

why cant you just buy a fun toy!!! little boys and girls enjoy building blocks and noisy things like my first music set from early learning centre, this shop great for learning but more importantly fun. educations a great thing but sometimes you have to bypass that and just choose some fun. it amazes me how people buy these silly pc games for babies. no wonder we have a nation of overweight children. stuck in front of the tv or the pc instead of playing with toys or other children. sorry!!! soap box time

Leap pad makes a toy that teaches the kids their ABC's. It sticks on the fridge with a magnet and the letters are magnetized also. It also has a volume control which is always a big plus.

Do you know what's the most precious gift. Photo of valueble moment. As it is his one year old Christmas, you should take many happy moments of him with grandpa, grandma, daddy, mommy, etc. Then make it an album. He/she will definately appreciate you when he grows up. Good luck with it! Early Xmas wishes to you all.

A huge box (like from a refrigerator) and a lot of crayons to decorate it. My son paid more attention to the big boxes, and had loads more fun with them, than any of the toys anybody got him.

I know there are LeapFrog systems that are great for any age. Be sure to check that out.

Educational for a 1-year-old though... just get him or her TMX Elmo. :)
