I have had what feels like "acid reflux", for the last two weeks. Everytime I eat something,my throat burns, my chest hurts, and no matter how many "Pepcid" pills, or TUMS I take, it happens almost everyday after I eat. Someitmes it even wakes me up at night. I hate going to the doctor for every little thing, but it's starting to get bothersome. Does anyone have any suggestions on what's happening? or how I may remedy it? Thanks!

This probably will sound dumb at first, but vinegar is actually a very good antacid. The reason is that when it is in your stomach, your body will recognize that you just put an acid in your stomach and slow down on making the hydrochloric acid. It's a negative feedback mechanism. This doesn't always work, and if it continues for you I would go to the doctor because it sounds like you might have something called GERD (Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease). There are other pills that can help people with this. Good luck. (and milk doesnt work....milk is actually acidic, but not enough for your body to use the negative feedback mechanism. The thing that works in Tums is the phosphate, not the calcium,)

You need to go to the doctor and have them prescribe something stronger like Prevacid or Nexium. I have been in the same boat. After a while, Tums, Rolaids, etc. do not work. I am immune to them, so I had to start taking a stronger medicine. Good luck.

You may have an ulcer or other lesion you prpbably should see a doctor. In the mean time sometimes a soothing glass of milk hits the spot better than anything, after all antacids are calcium.

Most of your answers are very, very good. I, also, hate going to the doctor for "every little thing," but sometimes it's not that little.
I'd like to add one more thing. Are you on any medications? I took fosomax, & then actonel for building bone density, & for the first time in my life, understood what "heartburn" felt like. At times, it was even difficult to swallow pills. (A contraindication.)I'm on boniva now, & while in the same :family," it's working. I would see a doctor at once--this can damage your esophagus.

It may be stomach acid eating the lining of your esophagus. You need to see a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatmen. I autopsied a woman once who let it eat through her esophagus. No family physician or GP.

You probably have GERDS, or gastric reflux disease. This is where the acid in your stomach goes back into your esophogus, due to the valve at the base of your esophogus not functioning properly. Go see the doc......

I'd see your MD. You may need a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) Nexium or Protonix.
