Apart from the cost and the fact it gets to your destination quickly and safely, what else can taxi drivers do to improve your experience and make you more likely to tip them?

The taxi should be clean and odor free. The taxi driver should be polite and greet the customers and thank them when they alight. The music should be soothing and not loud. Don't count your money when there are passengers in the taxi. Don't smoke, they can smell it from your breath or body/clothes. Shower and shampoo before going on duty.

Pick up my cues...I know it's selfish, but if I look like I don't want to talk, don't try to engage me in conversation anyway. (Hint: if the headphones are in use, I probably DON'T feel like talking!) And don't spend the whole time talking on your cell phone, because that usually makes me wonder if we're going to die before we get where we're going. Listen to the radio, that's fine, I don't mind that at all.

Don't blast the radio -- unless we ask! And while polite conversation is nice, sometimes we just want to sit back and enjoy some peace-and-quiet.

they don't talk to me unless I talk to them first and they know the city like the back of there hand, and the occasional drama scene with other motorist and/or pedestrians is cool too.
