She is having occasional braxton hicks, but nothing constant. The doctor says the baby is too big, ultrasound said 71/2 lbs two weeks ago. She is scheduled for a c-section tomorrow. She is really nervous about epidural. Anyone with epidural during c-section have any problems?

She is only 5' tall. The last ultrasound was 2 weeks ago and he was 71/2 pounds then, so larger now. The doctor also said head is measuring a little large and she thinks too large for her pelvis.

That happened to me, too. I did dialate and efface a little bit, but the baby never dropped. Finaly at 41 weeks, they scheduled an induction, and 4 days later, I went to the hospital for it. Before they started the pitocin, they wanted to do an ultrasoudn to make sure everything was still ok since I hadn't had one since 19 weeks, and it tuned out that my son was frank breech and face up.

I had a c-section the next morning, because the doctor said that there was too much that could go wrong if I had him vaginally.

The worst part of it was being afraid when they took me into the operating room. I can remember being afraid that I would fall off of the table because it was so skinny. I had a spinal block, which is like an epidural, but they don't leave the catherter in, they just inject all the medicine at once.

First they numbed the area up, and that shot hurt more. It was like a burning. The spinal itself was like a big pinch, and it was over quickly.

Numbed up fast, and my son was born in 29 minutes which the doctor said was a personal best by 1 minute. Haha. He was cleaned up and taken to the nursury to be checked out, and it took them 30 more minutes to finish up with me.

I was taken back to my room, and as the medication wore off, I started getting really itchy and shaky. I already had an IV in my arm, so they injected some antihistimine and muscle relaxant through there.

The itching and shaking stopped within an hour, and nothing else happened.

He weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces, which is a perfectly average weight. Is your daughter petite or have small hips? 7 1/2 pounds isn't a big baby, but the doctor doesn't want to take any chances.

Congratulations on the new grandbaby!

Epidurals are wonderful. Have her ask if she can do it laying on her side instead of leaning forward. It's much more comfortable that way. It took 3 tries for mine to work, but it was well worth it. They tried twice with me leaning forward, then tried me on my side and it worked that last time. I didn't even feel anything when she did it. They do some sort of test before they put the real stuff in to make sure they put it in right, so tell her not to worry about it.

I had an emergency C-section, and mine was done in a matter of minutes. It was exciting and scary all at once, but since hers is planned and mine wasn't, she should just be excited. :) The only thing I didn't like about the epidural (or other drugs in my body) was that I was shivering uncontrolably during the c-section and afterwards too. I think some people just have different reactions to drugs, but it was annoying more than anything else.

Also, the recovery was not as bad as everyone was telling me it was going to be, but she will still need to take it easy.

Good luck to you and your daughter!

I had a epidural with my son and a vaginal birth, I was fine after but did shrink a couple of inches. I actually had to be stuck twice as the 1st one didn't go deep enough and the only thing I had was a bruise at the injection spot. I did not have one 20+ yrs ago with my daughter, that is why she was an only child so long. I had her natural...

She should be fine, talk to her Doctor and make sure to ask all the questions up front and don't think any question is too stupid to ask. With the epidural she is awake while delivering and gets to see her baby right away. IF they give her general anesthesia it will be a few hours before she will be able to see him/her.

So tell her to relax all will be well and pray for a healthy delivery & baby...

Good luck, God Bless and Congrats!!!!!!

I had a c-section. I was induced at 41 weeks and with 8 hours of hard labor and contractions In only got to 3cm (and I came in at 2). It is painful, I won't like, but the epidural isn't anything. It was a weird feeling to lose the bottom half your body lol, but by next morning I could walk around and shower. Nice thing now is no staples like there used to be, just some tape like material. I did have some back aches for about 2 months, but nothing I couldn't handle. It will be fine! I am wondering why they think a 7.5 lb baby is too big. My daughter was estimated at 8.5-9lbs on her last ultrasound and we still went ahead and tried a vaginal birth. I think her doctor is being lazy in my opinion and doesn't want to hassle with inducing and all of that. My sister have birth to 3 kids, all over 8.5 lbs vaginaly. My best friend's daughter was 9.1 lbs and she delivered vaginaly. So, that part doesn't make sense to me, sorry!

I didn't have a c-section but I have used an epidural and it made my labor a lot easier. My cousin has had 1 and another one soon without problems. It all depends on the person. Everyone responds differently with medicine. For the most part though most c-sections have to have epidural and they go fine. Once again it is just how the persons body reacts.

Not with my first one, and not really with my 2nd one.

The only problem I had came in recovery. For some reason we still don't understand, my body temperature dropped. I was sweating and shaking so they thought that I had a fever (but they couldn't get the thermometer to register a temperature). They kept putting ice cold compresses on my head and around my neck. Finally, another nurse came in and asked what was going on. When they told her, she became alarmed. She took all the cold compresses off my head and told them I was not actually hot, but that my temperature was far too low. She piled blankets on me and put what looked like a vacuum cleaner hose underneath all the blankets - it was attached to something that blew hot air underneath the covers. Within minutes I had stopped shaking and sweating and actually felt somewhat normal. I never really found out what happened (I really should ask I guess LOL!), but the biggest problem was that my c/s was complete at 5:40 pm and I didn't leave recovery until after 10:30 pm.

Given that the recovery nurses were not able to identify what was wrong immediately, I'm guessing I had a really strange reaction to it. I've heard stories of other women having probs with epidurals, but I don't personally know anyone who has had a problem with them.

Good luck to you and your daughter and your new grandbaby!

I had a Spinal Block dusring my csection. I had no problems. Sounds like this is the only way to get that little bugger out since he is a bigger baby. I am sure she will be fine. It is rough having to go the full 40 weeks. Poor thing. I am glad she is finally getting to have him. She will be so glad when it is over and she can hold her precious baby. Good luck with it all. I wish you the best. Congratulations

She has nothing to worry about. Epidurals are fun. Especially the part where you don't feel your legs. Congratulations on your new grandchild. I suggest getting liquored up tonight.
