No.
Depression can sometimes be hard to separate from Bi-polar disorder a totally different problem. If a person starts antidepressant meds and they get hyper it could mean they're Bi-polar and not depressed.
I would absolutely call the doctor. The treatment for Bi-polar is totally different.

NO!!!! She's swinging into a mania. One minute she'll be really happy, and tomorrow she could be confiding in you her suspicions that your brother is a love child of Bob Dylan, and that she really CAN afford to put a new Maserati in the driveway... She needs to go to the dr right away to keep the episode from escalating. Some people have this reaction to antidepressants, and are generally classified as Bipolar Type 3, which means they develop bipolar-like symptoms while under tne influence of certain psychoactive medications. She may need to take something like Topamax or Depakote to maintain a more stable mood... Had this happen to me once on a med called Geodon.
BTW, I have bipolar type 2 disorder... I have to take antidepressants bc I tend to swing low rather than high, but if I don't take them with an antipsychotic, I get really wiggy...

I started out at 100 mg of zoloft and i had the same side effects as your describing with the fast speech of your mother. My personal experince the day after i started taking it my pupils got very big i talked very fast had a lot of thoughts in my head thats why i talked so fast i was very excited! But after a few days it wore off for me and i was just plain happy nothing else. it also seemed like it speeded up my metaoblism i would say if she does not stop this within a week to call the doc

No, it sounds like she may have bipolar disorder. Treating bipolar depressed patients with antidepressants alone (without a mood-stabilizer such as lithium) has a risk of sending them into a manic, hypomanic or mixed state. Rapid speech is a classic symptom of mania and hypomania. Does she have other symptoms such as elevated (way above normal) mood, decreased need for sleep, increased activity or agitation and racing thoughts? She should talk to her doctor immediately before it develops into a full-blown manic episode. It might be difficult because many people enjoy the elation and increased energy of the initial stages of mania.

Sometimes people who start taking Prozac after a few days feel agitated, talk fast and have trouble sitting still. These behaviors usually go away in a few days

seeing how noone that answered is a doctor..your best bet is to talk with your mom to see if she has noticed this also and then a call to the dr is in order...with any medication you dont want to take any chances and it is much better to hear from your doctor or pharmisist that it is normal then someone else..good luck
