Hi, All you need to do is to catch it ,the best way is to use a thick glove or if you don't have one you can use a towel ,make sure that you fold the towel thick , because parakeets bite really hard sometimes breaking your skin,, make sure that when you hold it ,, it need to be face up, take a regular nail clipper and clip the tip of the nail ,you don't want to clip to far up ,but just enough ,so that there nails don't get in the way,,

It be easier if they were tamed. Try a Jersey Glove they usually not bite hard and it be soft. Talk to them and get them used to you reaching into the cage. Then you catch one clip the nails using nail clippers, but, be careful you not clip to far or you get flesh and blood. Some pets shops can do this and it may not cost much, plus you learn how it done. Also, pet shops sell a Sandpaper thing that go around the perch rods and it will keep them trimmed.

would take them to a pet store or avian vet. I will not even try to trim my birds nails, they can not handle much if there not used to being handled. Once the nails are trimmed, try using a sandy perch. It is really a perch that is covered in a sandpaper type material. It can help keep the nails shortened

I also agree to take them to a local pet shop or vet. But that can cost a bit.
Other wise when we have to cut my mom's we catch them with a washcloth and keep their head covered while we trim their nails and remember not to cut down too far so it does not bleed. If bleeding does happen corn starch will stop it.
Their are also types of perches that will help keep them down they have a grit to them and they work great for my bird along with the few that my mother has.
Good luck to you

It's better to take them to a vet or pet store that offers this service.
That way they don't associate you with unpleasantness and wreck all the good work you have put in to taming them.
Also, they have lots of experience. They can do it so that there is less stress and trauma for the little guys.
Cheers.

As your birds are untrained, its advisable to see your vet,so he/she can show you how to do this. If your birds suffer undue stress resulting from your cautious approach, they could die.
