I get an error message that says no such file exists. I am running Windows XP. If I select "Browse", where will I locate the Misconfig file to follow the directions I have been given to eliminate programs in the Start Up file?

How to use MSCONFIG
Built into Windows 98, 98SE, ME, and XP ("but what about Windows 95, NT, or 2000?") is a special tool called the "Microsoft System Configuration Utility" or simply "MSCONFIG." Designed to help you troubleshoot problems with your computer, MSCONFIG can also be used to ensure that your computer boots faster and crashes less.

Most people know that the more programs you have running on your computer at once, the more likely it is that your computer will either run slowly or even crash. What most people don't know is that every time you boot your computer a whole mess of "hidden" programs load in the background. Some of these hidden programs are essential, but most aren't. Turning off some of these hidden programs can significantly increase your computer's performance and reliability

That's just a typographical error.Type clearly MSCONFIG which will bring out a some good results for you. It's generally use for system configuration utility.when the new box appear than select which program otherwise window will load all device drivers and services. So better select yourself which services you wanted, otherwise loading all system drivers and services will slow down the speed of your computer.system.ini and win.ini both files they will appear on the system configuration box.
