My doc says I should take it for anxiety, not for depression. I am not a heavy drinker but I do like to try different types of beer from time to time but I'm worried that the side effects would be bad.

Officially, no. Unofficially, a drink or two is probably ok--I've taken a very high dose of zoloft (200 mg daily), and had a drink or two. Only difference, like someone else said, is that alcohol tolerance goes WAY down. After teetotalling for a few months when first put on zoloft, I asked my doctor if I could have a drink, and he said as long as it's a beverage and not a crutch. But I wouldn't drink more than 2, because you might not feel very well after that.

I've had alcohol in small quantities (like, 1 glass of wine or half a glass of beer) on antidepressants, and the only effect I've had is feeling really drunk, really fast. Higher amounts can cause your brain to freak out a bit, causing a sudden severe drop in mood, and psychosis. I ended up in the psych unit overnight once b/c a waitress at Applebee's served me a double-shot margarita instead of a half-shot, and I drank the whole shaker full (three drinks' worth!) before I realized it had too much alcohol in it. I would be very careful... Try making your own spritzers with a couple of ounces of wine and some Sprite. Just keep adding more Sprite and Ice to it when it gets low. You'll still have the taste of the wine without the heavy alcohol content. Also, there are some great non-alcoholic beers and wines (especially Fre' or Ariel, like $4-$5 a bottle at the grocery store) out there...

My mom has been taking Zoloft for a pair years now, and that i've got observed an progression in her temper because she began them. some area outcomes that could ensue whilst first beginning the drug comprise nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, loss of urge for food, extra beneficial sweating, drowsiness, diarrhea, disillusioned abdomen, or hassle snoozing. those many times flow away after each week or so of being on the medicine. in the event that they do no longer flow away, or they worsen, you may seek for advice out of your well being care expert.

“Consumption of alcohol can also interact with the Zoloft you are
taking, affecting its metabolism, as well as affecting its ability to
control the depression, or other condition, for which it was
prescribed.”
